    Big Business And Conservative Groups Helped Bolster The Sedition Caucus’ Coffers During The Second Fundraising Quarter Of 2021 Executive Summary During the 2nd Quarter Of 2021, 25 major PACs tied to corporations, right wing Members of Congress and industry trade associations gave over $1.5 million to members of the Congressional Sedition Caucus, the 147 lawmakers who voted to object to certifying the 2020 presidential election. This includes: • $140,000 Given By The American Crystal Sugar Company PAC To Members Of The Caucus. • $120,000 Given By Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s Majority Committee PAC To Members Of The Caucus • $41,000 Given By The Space Exploration Technologies Corp. PAC – the PAC affiliated with Elon Musk’s SpaceX company. Also among the top PACs are Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, and the National Association of Realtors. Duke Energy and Boeing are also on this list despite these entity’s public declarations in January aimed at their customers and shareholders that were pausing all donations for a period of time, including those to members that voted against certifying the election. The leaders, companies and trade groups associated with these PACs should have to answer for their support of lawmakers whose votes that fueled the violence and sedition we saw on January 6.     Voss Familiarity Doesn’t Breed Contempt 201 Chapter 9 - Black Incumbents, White Districts: A Georgia Analysis The civil rights community made a serious tactical blunder when the U.S. Supreme Court began striking down “racial gerrymanders” in the mid-1990s.1 Filled with dismay after watching majority- minority districts fall one by one at the Court’s hands, activists got carried away with their rhetoric, foretelling a doom destined not to descend. NAACP Legal Defense Fund attorney Theodore Shaw prophesied, for example, that minority members of Congress “eventually” would be able to “meet in the back seat of a taxi cab” (Charen 1996).2 Deval Patrick, the assistant attorney general for civil rights, went even further: he said the Shaw v. Reno line of court decisions portended “a return to all-white government” (Baltimore Sun 1996). Other activists borrowed ugly images from Southern history. U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney, whose Georgia district traded away heavily black precincts for much whiter Atlanta suburbs (Tucker 1995), threatened that African-American legislators would face “the same level of extinction” as they did after Reconstruction (Applebome 1994). Elaine Jones, head of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, summoned memories of lynchings; she said the Supreme Court was “closing the noose” on black legislators (Savage 1996). Not to be outdone, the Rev. Jesse Jackson reached beyond U.S. history for his metaphor–calling the rulings (in an oft-quoted line) “a kind of ethnic cleansing” (Tilove 1996). “The fact that 1996 looks more like 1896 every day cannot be ignored.” No matter how restrained, all implied an immediate and direct threat to congressional diversity.

SUMMARY: On January 6, 2021, a rally in support of overturning the results of the 2020 presidential election “turned deadly” when thousands of people stormed the U.S. Capitol at Donald Trump’s urging. Even Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, who rarely broke with Trump, has explicitly said, “the mob was fed lies. They were provoked by the President and other powerful people.” These “other powerful people” include a vast array of conservative officials and Trump allies who perpetuated false claims of fraud in the 2020 election after enjoying critical support from the groups that fueled the Capitol riot. In fact, at least 43 current Governors or elected federal office holders have direct ties to the groups that helped plan the January 6th rally, along with at least 15 members of Donald Trump’s former administration. We remain committed to working together to address the global needs of vaccine distribution, but this proposed waiver will not help us meet that goal. Intellectual Property (IP) protections have fostered life-saving biomedical innovation, strengthened the U.S. economy, created millions of good paying jobs, and made our country the world leader in the development of cutting-edge diagnostics, treatments, and cures. We firmly believe that waiving these IP protections will prove to be disastrous and counterproductive in our fight against this global pandemic and urge you in the strongest possible terms to rescind your support for this policy. The real challenges in fighting the pandemic include tackling major logistical, manufacturing, and health care delivery hurdles. Weakening IP rules will not solve any of these challenges. The United States Trade Representative’s (USTR) announcement is deeply disappointing and will do nothing to accelerate the global distribution of COVID-19 vaccines. Quite the contrary, waiving the IP protections would only serve to undermine innovation and make it even more difficult for industry to respond to both the current pandemic and future health emergencies. Such actions include labeling President Trump’s tweets as a threat to “public health” or “public safety” while turning a blind eye to Chinese Communist Party propaganda, unequivocal threats from the Supreme Leader of Iran, and use of your platform to put law enforcement in harm’s way.4 While it has been evident for some time that Twitter and other social media platforms have acted with clear bias against conservative viewpoints and Republican politicians, these latest actions represent an unacceptable escalation and threaten the future of our democratic discourse. During your testimony to the Energy and Commerce Committee in 2018 you stated, “Twitter does not use political ideology to make any decisions.”5 Clearly, this statement is patently false, or the official posture of your company has changed. During your time as CEO, it has become clear that Twitter has no qualms about using the power of its platform to selectively censor certain types of speech to advance a blatant political agenda.
