Included are the major streams and lakes which contain one or more species of game fish and are freely open to the general public. Not included are those fishing wate~s on private land which are not open to the public and those occurring on Indian Reservations. It is recog nized that there may be numerous stock ponds which have received unreported stockings and small streams with wild fish populations which have been inadvertently overlooked. The checklist is presented under two major headings: Rivers and Streams, and Lakes and Reservoirs. Identified are 149 rivers and streams and 165 lakes and reservoirs which pre sently provide sport fisheries. An additional 35 streams (210 linear miles) and 35 lakes (220 surface acres), identified as having potential for development as a sport fishery, are listed separately. The unique nature of urban fishing waters has warranted a separate listing, even though they are also included in the general listing of Lakes and Reservoirs. Streams with the same name are differentiated by adding the name of the stream to which they are a t~ibutary. For example, Sycamore Creek, which drains into the Verde River, is identified as Sycamore Creek-Verde, distinguishing it from the Sycamore Creek which drains into the Agua Fria River (Sycamore Creek-Agua Fria). Some of the 149 identified rivers and streams are subdivided into two or more manage ment "reaches" (segments) due to landownership or biological and geographical factors which r equire s ignific a n t diffe r enc e s i n managment. The r esul t is 1 96 s t r eam management r eaches and 11 canals . I n f ormation f or each str eam i ncludes the beginning and ending points (latitude and longit ude ± 7½") for each management ~each known to contain a sport fishery, and the estimated number of stream miles . A digital drainage system r eference number and the number of the game management unit in which the sport fishery occurs is also included . Average sur~ face acreages were estimated realizing that water levels are dynamic and may fluctuate widely. The game management unit in which the lake occurs is also noted. In addition to the 56 cold water (trout} lakes listed below, 7 in- state and 2 Colorado River "warm water" lakes (2 7 226 and 136,500 acres} are stocked with trout on a seasonal basis . A state map of latitude and longitude is included. Summary of Listed Lake and Reservoir Present Sport Fisheries Number of Average Surface Acres Sport Fishery Type Lakes Tn-State Colo.
