Sep 22, Anne rated it really liked it Recommended to Anne by: Chad. Shelves: hooplagraphic-novelsread-in I was genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed this! So, yeah. Even though I've seen this before, I was still turning the digital pages with an intensity that shocked me. Good stuff! Looking forward to the next volume! View all 23 comments. Mar 12, Chad rated it really liked it Shelves: The X-Men if they were started by Magneto. Toyo Harada is the most powerful man in the world, both financial and physical with his psiot powers that Harbinger: Volume 1 public isn't aware of. He's become aware of Peter, a psiot to rival himself with mental health issues. Peter is being hunted by another organization, Project Rising Spirit from over in Bloodshot. Peter comes to Toyo's school for help where there may be more going on. What I like about this book is everyone's flawed. Both sides make terrible choic The X-Men if they were started by Magneto. Both sides make terrible choices. Peter may even be too flawed at the start. He does some awful things that are difficult to get past. Toyo is an end justifies the means type guy who thinks he and his Harbingers are the only hope to save humanity from itself. The only thing subpar about this was the art. Khari Evans draws everyone as if they just smelled a fart. His art does get better as time goes on though. He's worked on a ton of Valiant books since this. Note: If you have ever wondered the best order to read all of Valiant's comics in, here it is. View 2 comments. Apr 11, Cheese rated it really liked it. Wow Harbinger: Volume 1 wow. It seems Valiant books have taken old ideas with an adult theme and executed in a more modern and realistic twist. Harbinger: Volume 1 book explores Harbinger: Volume 1 Harbingers. It doesn't state they are mutants, Harbinger: Volume 1 that's basically what they are. They have a professor X esque guy who is trying to change the world for the better by recruiting these mutants, but turns out when Harbinger: Volume 1 recruits someone more powerful than him, Peter, hi Wow just wow. They have a professor X esque guy who is trying to change the world for the better by recruiting these mutants, but turns out when he recruits someone more powerful than him, Peter, his loyal followers betray him. Peter Harbinger: Volume 1 only a boy but has immense power and goes about recruting people to his own cause. Stopping this corporate mongul. Love the execution and adult theme throughout. I just Harbinger: Volume 1 the rest are like this. View Harbinger: Volume 1 3 comments. Aug 15, Sam Quixote rated it Harbinger: Volume 1 it. Peter Stanchek is a teenager on the run from shadowy government types who want him because he can make people do what he wants with his mind! Take Peter, our protagonist. I think it was the constant angst that got Harbinger: Volume 1 me in the end. Peter is certainly in tough situations throughout and under enormous stress, but his repeated efforts to push back against anyone and everyone, shouting and screaming at them while in private clutching his head in agony That and the story went from mysterious to flat out superhero schtick by the end which was a Harbinger: Volume 1 disappointing. Harbinger, Vol 1: Omega Rising definitely has its moments and is a fast-paced action story similar to the movie Chronicle with Harbinger: Volume 1 of X-Men thrown in. The art is just ok, the writing is fine, but the main character is really hard to like - hell, most of the characters, bar Faith and Joe, are total dicks! Mar 15, Mike rated it really liked it Shelves: digital-first. The battles between the boy and the minions of Harada the Harbinger are merciless and surprising. The exposition and plotting between the battles are pretty standard for this kind of teen-coming-of-age-as-the-most-powerful-person-in-the-world tale. I live how this doesn't try to resemble an early X-Man book - until it does. Jun 28, Judah Radd rated it it was amazing Shelves: valiant-comics. I was fortunate enough to interview the writer, Joshua Harbinger: Volume 1, for our youtube channel. Check it out here! This is unpredictable, fun, smart and exciting. I have no idea what direction this is going to take, but I know I need more. These characters are fascinating. Nobody is an archetype Harbinger, Volume 1: Omega Rising by Joshua Dysart Harbinger is an American comic book series published by Valiant Comics about a group of teenage super-powered outcasts known as Harbingers. Harbinger initially featured writing and art by Jim Shooter and David Lapham. They continued to appear in many Valiant titles, most prominently the Unity series. Harbinger was one of the Harbinger: Volume 1 selling Valiant titles with total sales in all languages of over five million comics. InValiant released Harbinger: The Beginninga deluxe hardcover collecting the Harbinger: Volume 1 seven issues. Harbinger: The Beginning reached Harbinger: Volume 1 on Amazon. Toyo Harada is the first Harbinger of the modern age, and unlike subsequent Harbingers he was able to make his powers manifest at will, or activate the powers of others. Other Harbingers exhibit powers only rarely and this activation is always brought on by severe stress. Harada is an Omega Harbinger: he commands the full spectrum of psionic abilities, including telepathy, telekinesis, mind-control, and many other talents. He uses these powers to create a multinational corporation and amass a Harbinger: Volume 1 fortune. Fearing the world is on a course to destroy itself, he plans to take it over and mold it to his specifications. Harbinger: Volume 1 this end he creates the Harbinger Foundation, which actively searches for potential Harbingers whose powers Harada triggers with his psionic abilities. Pete Stanchek is a normal teenager Harbinger: Volume 1 he develops Harbinger abilities. After seeing an advertisement he contacts the Harbinger Foundation. Harada is intrigued by Pete, who is the only other Harbinger to have triggered his own powers and who exhibits multiple abilities. Harada is no longer the only Omega Harbinger. Harada tries to persuade Pete to join the Harbinger Foundation and become Harada's right-hand man, but when Pete's best friend, who had been vocal Harbinger: Volume 1 his distrust for Harbinger: Volume 1, is murdered by the Foundation Pete realizes the truth. Pete, along with Kris a high school cheerleader who Pete had first been unconsciously mentally controlling so that she would go out with him become renegades. They decide to recruit Harbingers themselves, activate their abilities, and form an army capable of challenging Harada. Harbinger 0 from Valiant Comics' first volume, is the prequel to the Harbinger series and details how Peter Stanchek became involved with the Harbinger Foundation and came to oppose Harada. Each issue of Harbinger from 1 through 6 contained a numbered coupon. Harbinger: Volume 1 coupon also featured one panel of a six panel story by Harbinger: Volume 1 Shooter that told the origin of Toyo Harada. A new hardcover collection Harbinger: The Beginning featured a new story by Jim Shooter"Origin of Harada", which presumably fleshes out the story that appeared on the coupons. A blue cover version was eventually released to meet demand. The 0 issue of the reboot explores instead the origin of Toyo Harada as a Harbinger: Volume 1 War II survivor and his eventual endeavors with his conglomerate using the Harbingers as a war tool.

Produced by Voyager Communications, Inc., Magnus, along with the second Valiant title, Solar – Man of the Atom, were revivals of comic book titles originally printed in the 1960’s & 1970’s by Gold Key. From 1991 to 1992, Magnus, Solar, and successive original Valiant titles such as Harbinger, Rai, and X-O Manowar combined to provide a solid foundation for the Valiant universe…which was praised for its exciting characters, inviting art, and strong continuity of storytelling across all titles building up to the eighteen-part Unity crossover event of 1992. The Unity storyline, combined with a surge in comic book collecting at the time of DC’s “Death of Superman” and the recent introductions of Wizard: The Guide to Comics and Overstreet Monthly price guide magazines propelled early Valiant comic books to market value listings of $20, $50, or even $100+ each, though the books were less than two years old.
