FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: Angie Bertucci | 805.679.6010 | [email protected] Tickets: Lobero Box Office | 805.963.0761 | Lobero.com David Bromberg, Larry Campbell & David Hidalgo: The American Crossroads Trio “E Pluribus Unum” Tuesday, January 15 at 8 PM One of only five appearances by this supergroup! Santa Barbara, CA, December 6, 2018 – Lobero LIVE presents David Bromberg, Larry Campbell and David Hidalgo: The American Crossroads Trio on January 15. It may seem lofty to use the motto of the United States to describe a musical group, but “out of many, one” accurately describes the trio of David Bromberg, Larry Campbell and David Hidalgo. Each of these acclaimed performers is steeped in American music traditions, from wildly divergent paths. This will be an unscripted evening of spontaneity, discovery and musical virtuosity by three American music masters. David Bromberg haunted the streets of Greenwich Village in the 1960’s, learning the blues first hand from Rev. Gary Davis and Mississippi John Hurt on his way to becoming an in-demand session musician and accompanist for Jerry Jeff Walker, Bob Dylan, Phoebe Snow, Willie Nelson and dozens more. Further musical explorations with Doc Watson and others lead to a deep dive into American bluegrass and country music. David’s unannounced performance before 400,000 at the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970 launched a legendary career as a recording artist and bandleader in his own right. David Hidalgo is perhaps best known as the guitarist and singer of the Grammy-winning band Los Lobos, the East LA based group he co-founded with Louie Perez. ‘Lobos’ has prospered over a storied forty-five year career, introducing audiences around the world to its unique Chicano-flavored American rock and roll, blues and roots music. Adept at a dizzying arsenal of instruments, Hidalgo is a masterful musician and singer who has contributed to recordings by Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Elvis Costello and Tom Waits and others. His unrivaled musicality and vision enables him to adapt to virtually any setting. Larry Campbell, like Bromberg and Hidalgo, has lent his considerable talents to the aforementioned Mr. Dylan - Larry was by Bob’s side for eight years as a part of the ‘Never-Ending Tour’ band. Painstakingly teaching himself multiple instruments as a teen, Larry criss-crossed the US soaking up music in Austin, TX, Jackson, MS and Los Angeles. Studio recordings and tours with Keith Richards, kd lang, Jackson Browne, Emmylou Harris and others have cemented Larry’s reputation as a world class musician. A master guitarist, Larry is also accomplished on mandolin, lap steel, fiddle, pedal-steel guitar, cittern and banjo. Campbell is a three-time Grammy winner for his productions of Levon Helm. He currently records and tours with Teresa Williams. Tickets for David Bromberg, Larry Campbell and David Hidalgo: The American Crossroads Trio are on sale now at Lobero.org, or by calling the Lobero Box Office at 805.963.0761. Tickets are $46 for section A, $36 for section B, along with a limited number of VIP tickets available for $105, which include entry to pre-show reception. • The Twenty Greatest Music Concerts I've Ever Seen
THE TWENTY GREATEST MUSIC CONCERTS I'VE EVER SEEN Whew, I'm done. Let me remind everyone how this worked. I would go through my Ipod in that weird Ipod alphabetical order and when I would come upon an artist that I have seen live, I would replay that concert in my head. (BTW, since this segment started I no longer even have an ipod. All my music is on my laptop and phone now.) The number you see at the end of the concert description is the number of times I have seen that artist live. If it was multiple times, I would do my best to describe the one concert that I considered to be their best. If no number appears, it means I only saw that artist once. Mind you, I have seen many artists live that I do not have a song by on my Ipod. That artist is not represented here. So although the final number of concerts I have seen came to 828 concerts (wow, 828!), the number is actually higher. And there are "bar" bands and artists (like LeCompt and Sam Butera, for example) where I have seen them perform hundreds of sets, but I counted those as "one," although I have seen Lecompt in "concert" also. Any show you see with the four stars (****) means they came damn close to being one of the Top Twenty, but they fell just short. So here's the Twenty. Enjoy and thanks so much for all of your input. And don't sue me if I have a date wrong here and there.

David Bromberg, an acknowledged virtuoso on guitar, mandolin, dobro and other stringed instruments and a wry, distinctive vocalist, first made a name for himself in the late 1960s and early 1970’s as a musician’s musician, working as a session man for Bob Dylan (on New Morning, Self Portrait, and Dylan), Kris Kristofferson, Tom Paxton, Jerry Jeff Walker (with whom he toured for several years), Eric Andersen, John Prine, Dion, Link Wray, Ringo Starr, and many others. The David Bromberg Big Band, with which he performed and recorded in the late 1970’s and still reconvenes on occasion, was a raucous, loose-limbed approach to American roots music. After touring and recording extensively, Bromberg moved from San Francisco to Chicago in 1980 to study violin making. Bromberg has been operating David Bromberg Fine Violins, a retail shop. Frequent participation in the city’s weekly jam sessions helped rekindle Bromberg’s desire to make music again, as did the encouragement of fellow musicians Chris Hillman (The Byrds, Desert Rose Band, Flying Burrito Brothers) and bluegrass wizard Herb Pedersen. In 2013, content with the balance of both his violin business and performing career, David was ready to record again with his live band.

  • About Nigel Egg. Singer-Songwriter Nigel Egg Is a British Transplant
About Nigel Egg. Singer-songwriter Nigel Egg is a British transplant based in Minnesota who tours internationally, performing over 150 dates per year. Nigel has been compared to a bluesy Paul Simon (but taller) - his music is a totally unique and modern sound but reflects a music history that goes back to playing with legends like Supertramp and Mott The Hoople in the 1970s. More recently, Nigel Egg has opened for David Bromberg, Geoff Muldaur, Richard Thompson and Leon Russell. His newest (2014) album, The Blues Is Personal, is receiving world-wide acclaim and radio play. Every night is a different performance. In any particular set Nigel might give us a finger-picking blues followed by a searing love song, followed by a bawdy sing-along. The level of musicianship is astounding – soaring, passionate vocals, hot blues harp and string-shredding guitar. But it is the songs that stay with you. Nigel Egg is that rare songwriter whose songs connect the first time you hear them and then offer up new discoveries upon repeated listening. This guy is really the complete package! Nigel says, “I write songs about the stuff I know/feel/sense personally, and also about what my friends and family tell me. I’m a middle class white guy - I never had a hellhound on my trail, and I've never worked on the killing floor. But what I do sing about is real, and that comes through in the performance. OK, sometimes it's made up, but that seems to come across too.” Nigel Egg plays original folk, blues and Americana songs and a very personal collection of soulful American Roots music.

  • What They're Sayin'about Steel String “Americana”
What They’re Sayin’About Steel String “Americana”... “Paul Asbell’s ‘Steel String Americana” is a wonderful album! What I keep coming back to is how musical it is... I’ve actually been a fan of Paul’s guitar playing for quite a few years - I think he’s one of the best-kept secrets in American music today!” David Bromberg, acoustic guitar legend “...Steel String Americana is... a sumptuously recorded showcase for the myriad wondrous tones of the solo acoustic guitar- played by one who knows how to extract them all... Definitely one of my favorite guitar CDs of 2002.” Vintage Guitar Magazine, “Check this Action”, Dec. ‘02, written by Dan Forte “...veteran guitarist Paul Asbell fingerpicks his way through a stylistically diverse collection of tunes plucked from the great American musical canon and arranged and played with finesse, imagination, and humor. Asbell’s beautiful instrumental versions of the 1960s pop hit “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” and the ven- erable jazz standard “Stardust” seem right at home in a set that also includes... a funky fingerstyle rendition of Jerry Reed’s “Amos Moses” that just might make you reassess the original.” Acoustic Guitar Magazine, in the April ‘03 “Hit List” section “Solo acoustic guitarists tend to specialize in one genre, but Paul Asbell delights in exploring a spectrum of styles. With steady hands and a relaxed sense of swing, he tackles bouncy ragtime fingerpicking, crisp flat- picking, and lush, jazzy chording with equal aplomb... Asbell - who began his career backing Otis Rush and Magic Sam in Chicago blues clubs - knows how to sneak passing chords and moving bass lines into his arrangements without obscuring the melody or cluttering the groove.

Tedeschi Trucks Band, led by the husband-and-wife team of singer-guitarist Susan Tedeschi and guitar virtuoso Derek Trucks, are fresh off of their January 2016 release of Let Me Get By, their debut album for Fantasy Records. The Associated Press stated “Tedeschi Trucks Band has already released one of the great records of the year,” and following the band’s recent filming of Austin City Limits The Austin Chronicle added “There’s no contemporary match for the Tedeschi Trucks Band in that their third LP manages the nearly impossible combination of growth and improvement where none seems possible or necessary.” Since their inception in 2010, TTB have seen both of their previous albums debut in the Top 15 of the Billboard 200, and won a Grammy for their debut album Revelator, an album hailed by Rolling Stone as a “masterpiece.” They tour over 200 days of the year and have built a dedicated following around the world, one powerful performance at a time.
