WINGATE, N.C. - Austen Roberts scored on a 20-yard quarterback keeper in the second overtime period to lead Valdosta State to a 34-28 victory. The Roberts touchdown capped a tremendous comeback by the Blazers as VSU scored 14 second half points as well as touchdowns in both overtime periods. Roberts had a hand in all four of those scores, tossing touchdown passes to Quin Roberson and Tray Herndon, while adding a two-yard run for a score. Wingate got a touchdown in the first overtime period, but saw Tevin Davis block a field goal attempt in the second extra frame to set up Roberts’ winning run. The Bulldogs jumped out to an early 14-0 lead behind the arm of Cody Haffly, who threw for 306 yards and four touchdowns in the game. Theseus Jackson came off the bench and ran for a career-high 122 yards and a score on 16 carries to jump start the Blazer offense in the first half. His 11-yard scoring run in the second quarter closed Valdosta State to within 14-7 at the intermission, allowing Roberts to take over in the second half. Quin Roberson enjoyed a fantastic first game with the Blazers, catching four passes for 85 yards, including a finger-tip catch for a touchdown.
