In fact, in only three years (2006, 2008 and 2009) has VSU lost more than one born exactly 365 days later, on October 13, 1982. road game in a season during that span.

The Blazers at Home Valdosta State has won 122 of 163 games, with 38 losses and one tie (.752), on its home field since beginning football in 1982. The Blazers are an impressive 113-36-1 (.757) at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium and have gone 9-4 (.692) at Martin Stadium. VSU has gone undefeated at home seven times (5-0 in 2006, 6-0 in 2004, 9-0 in 2002, 5-0 in 1995, 8-0 in 1994, 3-0-1 in 1992 and 5-0 in 1986) in its 29-year history. The Blazers have been particularly successful at home since the beginning of the 2000 season as they have tallied a 56-10 record (.848) during that span. The Blazers are currently 1-1 at home in 2010. They opened the season with a 25-22 win over Wingate before falling 27-23 to Delta State.

Hit the Ground Running Much has been made over the course of the last decade of the prolific passing game that has been featured at Valdosta State. However, the 2010 version of the Blazers aren’t exactly holding up to that title as they have actually run the ball more than they have passed thus far this year. Out of its 288 total plays on the season, VSU has run the ball 156 times, or 54 percent of its offensive plays this year. Only twice over the course of the past 10 years has Valdosta State ran the ball more than it threw the ball. The 2010 Blazers are hoping for the same success as those two teams as both advanced to the national championship game. In 2004, VSU threw on 420 plays while running on 516, or 55 percent of its plays. Meanwhile, in 2002, VSU ran the ball 548 times while throwing it 547 times. Valdosta State’s other national championship season, 2007, saw the Blazers run 479 times and pass on 524 occasions, or 52 percent in favor of passing. The 52 percent pass-to-run ratio was the lowest “pass-happy” Blazer offense from 2000 to 2009.
