Quinn O’Connor, the school’s only four-year boys’ varsity runner in over 30 years, the boys’ team recorded the fastest times in El Segundo history. The football team made school history by advancing to the CIF Southern Section finals for the first time. The Eagles steamrolled through their last Pioneer League schedule and went 5-0. El Segundo High will be moved into the Ocean League for all sports in 2014. In the playoffs, the fourth0seeded Eagles handled Santa Paula in the first round and then won a barn-burner over Carpinteria 45-31 in the second round. Facing Oak Park for the second time of the season (the Eagles lost a 49-35 non-league game to Oak Park earlier in the year) proved to be much different. This time around Lars Nootbaar threw three touchdown passes, all to Nick Karsseboom. Karsseboom had a highlight game with 219 receiving yards as the Eagles won 59-40 at home to advance to their first section title game.
