About Suma Shirur

§ Suma Shirur, Mumbai based international Air Rifle shooter, comes from an academically inclined family § She did her schooling in and graduated in Chemistry from South Indian Education Society (SIES), Mumbai § in 1991, she was actively involved in National Cadet Corps (NCC) where she had her first introduction to shooting and developed a passionate interest in the sport § She earned three silvers in the Maharashtra State Championships, leading to the recognition of her potential talent as a young ace shooter § Suma made her name at the international stage winning medals at the 2002 in Busan and the 2002 in Manchester, where she won medals in the individual and team events of 10-metre Air Rifle § Suma created a sensation in Feb 2004 in , Malaysia, at the Asian Shooting Championship by equalling the world record of 400/400 and winning Gold for India § In 2003, Suma was bestowed with the coveted ‘Arjuna Award’, by the then President of India, A P J Abdul Kalam § In 2006, she founded the Lakshya shooting club in Mumbai to support budding shooters of Navi Mumbai. Today, under her watchful eye, over 20 young shooters from her hometown, Navi Mumbai, have made their mark at the National stage and 2 of them moving on to becoming a part of the Junior Indian Shooting Team § Suma Shirur won Silver medal at the InterShoot in The Hague, The Netherlands and she receives First place in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle at Selection Trials § Recently in Thane, Air-Rifle Shooting, Suma Shirur was awarded the prestigious ‘Shiv Gaurav Puraskar’ which was handed by Governor of Maharashtra, Dr. C Vidyasagar Rao Ø Client Mandate
