The Library of Professor Wayne Andersen Professor of the History, Theory, and Criticism of Art and Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Part One: Modern Art: 19 th and 20 th Centuries Part Two: Art Theory 2092 titles in 2106 volumes The Library of Professor Wayne Andersen The renowned art historian Wayne Andersen, (1928-2014), Professor Emeritus of the History, Theory, and Criticism of Art and Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was a specialist in the art of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and the author of fundamental studies in the history of Post-Impressionism and modern art. As director of MIT's Hayden Gallery, Andersen also organized pioneering exhibitions of contemporary art. Among his most important books are "Cézanne's Portrait Drawings" (1970), "Gauguin's Paradise Lost" (1971), "American Sculpture in Process: 1930-1970" (1975), "The Youth of Cézanne and Zola: Notoriety at Its Source: Art and Literature in Paris" (2003), and "Cézanne and the Eternal Feminine" (2004). His library reflects the focuses of his work, providing an impressive foundation for the study of European and American art from Delacroix to the present day.
