WEDNESDAY, 4 MAY 2016 STRONG TRADE CONTINUES AT INGLIS BILL OPPENHEIM: The Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale posted THAT GUY, GALILEO another strong session Tuesday when the third day of its four- day sale wrapped up in Sydney. A total of 366 horses have now been traded for A$22,049,550, compared to 279 sold for A$13,117,175 up to this point last year. The average and median remain well above last year=s figures at A$60,245 (+26.8%) and A$26,000 (+52.9%), respectively, and the clearance rate is 88% with one day of trade remaining. Top billing for the day went to Group 3 winner Vergara (Aus) (Snippetson {Aus}) (lot 550), who was picked up by Paul Guy of Heritage Bloodstock on behalf of the Victorian-based Blue Gum Farm. Guy outbid Rob Roulston, bidding for Rifa Mustang, for the 5-year-old, who won the G3 Epona S. at Rosehill in March and was fourth behind Winx (Aus) (Street Cry {Ire}) in the G1 Doncaster H. Apr. 2. Vergara, who was sold by owner/trainer Anthony Cummings=s Princes Farm, will have a Brisbane winter campaign before being bred, according to Guy. Cont. p6 G1 2000 Guineas winner Galileo Gold, pictured with trainer Hugo Palmer, is by Paco Boy out of a Galileo mare | Racing Post Paco Boy (Desert Style) was a ,30,000 Doncaster (now Goffs UK) 2-year-old, bought by Peter and Ross Doyle for the Hannon LIKE MOTHER LIKE DAUGHTER? training academy. He also won the G2 Lennox S. and Hungerford S. at seven furlongs as a 3-year-old; and the G2 Sandown Mile twice, at four and five. He was also Group 1-placed on four occasions, and ran RPR=s between 121-127 12 times while earning over ,1-million as a racehorse. So that was a good buy. Retired to Highclere Stud for the 2011 breeding season, Paco Boy=s first foals arrived in 2012, and are 4-year-olds this year, so G1 English 2000 Guineas winner Galileo Gold is from his second crop of 3-year-olds. He had done okay by the end of 2015, when his first 3-year-olds had finished racing, with an A Runner Index of 1.22 (four A Runners, including a Group 2-winning 2-year-old from each of his first two crops), and an ABC Runner Index of 1.30. Galileo Gold had won the G2 Vintage S. at Goodwood and run third in the G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere as a 2-year-old, but no doubt about it, Galileo Gold=s win Saturday was the sort of breakthrough moment every sire needs. cont. p2 TDN EUROPE/INTERNATIONAL $ PAGE 2 of 9 $ THETDN.COM WEDNESDAY, 4 MAY 2016 Galileo, Tapit, Uncle Mo: they are very big news this year, then we can add in Dubawi as the leading NA/EU sire by worldwide earnings (click here), after his $5.75-million Dubai World Cup THAT GUY, GALILEO cont. from p1 night. WEEKLY SALES TICKER by Bill Oppenheim “The rebranded Goffs UK (ex Doncaster) 2-year-old sale and Tattersalls’ Guineas 2-year-old sale ended up with very similar figures, Goffs UK selling 110 for an average of £32,780, while Tattersalls sold 114 for an average of 32,090 gns, or £33,695. However Doncaster’s totals were a 17% drop in the number sold, a 28% drop in gross, a 14% drop in average, and a 7% drop in the clearance rate from the catalogue. In fairness, that sale had jumped from a £29,605 average in 2013 to £36,585 in 2014 and £38,125 in 2015, but the fall back does suggest weaker demand at that level than a year or two ago.” GOFFS UK 2YO BREEZE-UP SALE YEAR CAT RING SOLD % W/D % S/R % S/C GROSS AVE 2016 168 149 110 11.3% 73.8% 65.5% £3,605,750 £32,780 2015 181 147 132 18.8% 89.8% 72.9% £5,032,500 £38,125 2014 182 149 127 18.1% 85.2% 69.8% £4,646,250 £36,585 2013 145 120 98 17.2% 81.7% 67.6% £2,901,300 £29,605 2012 192 160 122 16.7% 76.3% 63.5% £3,601,500 £29,520 2011 193 158 109 18.1% 69.0% 56.5% £3,183,500 £29,206 TATTERSALLS GUINEAS 2YO SALE YEAR CAT RING SOLD % W/D % S/R % S/C GROSS AVE 2016 172 145 114 15.7% 78.6% 66.3% 3,658,300 gns 32,090 gns 2015 188 153 120 18.6% 78.4% 63.8% 3,763,900 gns 31,366 gns 2014 159 126 100 20.8% 79.4% 62.9% 3,271,800 gns 32,718 gns 2013 139 113 92 18.7% 81.4% 66.2% 2,349,800 gns 25,541 gns 2012 127 98 78 22.8% 79.6% 61.4% 2,153,250 gns 27,606 gns 2011 73 63 35 13.7% 55.6% 47.9% 294,100 gns 8,403 gns Data compiled by Brianne Stanley TDN EUROPE/INTERNATIONAL $ PAGE 3 of 9 $ THETDN.COM WEDNESDAY, 4 MAY 2016 VADAMOS TO STAY AT HOME IN FRANCE Vadamos (Fr) (Monsun {Ger}), the eye-catching winner of the G2 Prix du Muguet at Saint-Cloud Sunday, will not race outside France this season, with trainer Andre Fabre noting the horse has underperformed both times he has traveled.
