DBF Grants Awarded_Partial List Summary Dallas Urban Debate Alliance Funds allowed DISD students to attend a summer debate program at UNT. The Dallas Urban Debate Alliance provides debate opportunities for DISD students to participate in the rigors of debate that are offered in private schools. Debate participants are more likely to graduate from high school. Debate programs serve as a pipeline to law school. Mosaic Family Services Funds allow for trained contract interpreters to assist in court hearings, document translations, and in- Multicultural Legal Services house attorney meetings for an underserved population. "Appealing to the Public"-­‐ a program with Allows students from DISD to hear oral arguments of the Fifth District Court of Appeals. Students are DISD students and the FiTexas. The purpose is to increase students' level of understanding of the legal system and the appeals process. IGNITE of Texas Supports expansion of the civics program for girls to 3 new high schools. Involves students in understanding the democratic and legislative process and learning the importance of women participating in the political arena. Students meet female state legislators and local elected officials and research public policy issues. LEGAL LINE Supports the free legal service program offered two times each month to the general public. Phone lines are staffed by volunteer attorneys to assist callers seeking legal guidance. DBA Minority Attorney Program Supported a 1 day program designed to meet the needs of solo, small, minority, and female practices. Had a record setting attendance of 178 attendees. Conference on Crimes Against Women Funds provide opportunity for Dallas County District Attorneys to attend the national conference on Crimes Against Women held in Dallas. DOORS Funds support the re-entry advocacy and re-entry training programs helping reduce recidivism among clients served in partnership with 5 Criminal Courts in Dallas. Human Rights Inititative Funds support legal services for the new DACA cases. These children clients are unique cases because they have been crime victims or are immediate relatives of crime victims. LAW Jam 4 Raised funds for the Dallas Vounteer Attorney Program which provides pro bono legal services for the underserved. DBA Family Law CLE Program The CLE program on Family Law provides an opportuntiy to recruit new lawyers for the Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program DBA Law Student Professionalism Program An educational program for summer law clerks addressing issues facing new lawyers. Presentations include mentoring, business etiquette, career planning and panel discussions with judges. Clerk and Coordinator Education Program Supports a full day education program coordinated by the DBA Judiciary Committee for clerks and coordiantors from probate, criminal, family and civil divisions of Dallas County and District Courts.
