Welcome to our performance! This celebration is the result of weeks of hard work, practice, and commitment driven by our mission to inspire children to be and to do their best.

In the performance, you will witness each child’s discipline, tenacity, and joyful effort. These set the stage for effective learning, improved health, and self- confidence. We are proud of all of these students and their achievements – all 6,800 of them statewide! And we are delighted to welcome our audiences of 67,000 family and community members.

Last fall, we welcomed the first students for after-school and weekend classes at The Hiland on Central Avenue in Albuquerque. The renovation and re-opening of The Hiland marks a tremendous milestone in the history of both The Hiland and NDI New Mexico. With it come new responsibilities and challenges. The Hiland reinforces our position as a leader in youth development in the state, as we increase our capacity to address some of the most critical needs of children in the central and southern parts of New Mexico.

Great things are happening, and there is still more to do! In November 2011 we announced an incredible grant of $1 million from the Sydney and Andrew Davis Foundation to help complete the campaign for The Hiland. They have challenged us to bring 1,000 new donors into the organization and raise $250,000 by November 30, 2012. We hope that you will be inspired by the 8 9 smiles, energy, and possibilities that you see onstage here, and join us in completing our campaign.

We send our heartfelt gratitude to all the donors who have expressed their belief in our vision, mission, and programs, with special thanks to those who have made the first two phases of The Hiland renovation ✬✬Gerald Landgraf, Chair ✬✬Jacques d’Amboise EMERITUS BOARD possible. ACADEMY FOR THE LOVE OF LEARNING PROGRAMS FOR MEANINGFUL CHANGE • TRANFORMING LIVES & REVITALIZING CULTURE

TThirtyhirtyyears ago, Aaron Stern, with his mentor, the late Leonard Bernstein, dreamt of revitalizing our culture. They imagined an institute that would bring awareness, creativity, and a sense of purpose into people’s lives. An institute that Stern believed would serve as an answer to Bernstein’s question: “Don’t we never learn?!”

Today, that dream is a reality. Based in Seton Village, the Academy for the Love Stern and Bernstein, 1985 of Learning is activating individuals, organizations and communities through Learning fills the soul, brightens programs such as Teacher Renewal, El Otro Lado: The Other Side—The Stories the intellect, unites intelligence with emotion, and throws light That Connect Us, the Institute for Organizational Learning, and Leading by into the dark places of life. spotlight ON Diane R. Doniger

Children’s health was a focus in Diane Doniger’s career. So when she and her husband retired to Santa Fe from New York, she quickly recognized the many needs of children here. A friend introduced her to NDI New Mexico at the annual Gala in 2005. She immediately realized, she recalls, that “it’s incredibly helpful to have NDI New Mexico in the schools, creating the connection between move- ment and health. The program is an enormously positive force and gives kids such a sense of value and possibility. I was also really impressed with the HIP to Be Fit® curriculum. From the donor side, I’m very impressed with the organiza- tion as a whole: a passionate staff, good stewards of money, grateful to their donors.”

“Having been employed in non-profit organizations for so long, I realize how much endowment and legacy gifts mean to an organization. It’s an easy way to give. It’s something people can do and feel good about, and it makes your family feel good because you’re continuing to help a cause you believed in. If an organization has been a major part of your life, you also want to make that final gift to keep things going.” NDIadPRINT_Layout 1 3/5/12 12:50 PM Page 1
