Brussels, 27 March 2017 Dear Mr. Dijsselbloem, Earlier this week we have known the statements you have made to a communication media, which we consider unequivocally discriminatory and offensive against several EU countries as well as offensive and sexist towards women. Shortly after the publication of your statements, you had the opportunity to rectify at the European Parliament, but you avoided doing so. On the contrary, instead of apologizing, you have said that the problem is that we do not understand the direct style of speech known to Calvinist culture. In our opinion, Calvinist culture has nothing to do with disdain for other people. This is the reason why we are again asking you - as representatives of European citizens, who have chosen us directly - to reflect and to rectify. Your statements attack one of the most important values that underpin our European Union: equality. In the last six decades, we have all managed together, Mr Dijsselbloem, to materialize a dream that once seemed unthinkable: that Europeans should be equal in opportunities, rights and obligations. The EU is not just rules, meetings and political decisions. What supports all of this, what gives meaning to the EU, are our common values, and equality as the most important one. Therefore, respecting these values should be the first obligation for any European leader, Mr Dijsselbloem. This includes assuming that European citizens, like any human being, are all equally respectable, regardless of our gender and our country of origin or residence. Attacking a certain group of countries as you have done is attacking each one of the EU countries.

1 03 Sept. 2014 How the Sakharov Prize 2014 is awarded Background briefing In the next 10 days, the nominations of the Sakharov Prize for Human Rights will be decided by the European Parliament. The prize is awarded to “honour exceptional individuals who combat intolerance, fanaticism and oppression.”1 Previous winners include Nelson Mandela, Reporters without Borders and Anatoli Marchenko. If you believe that Azerbaijani human rights defenders – who are now in jail following years of work on behalf of the rights of others, and most recently on a list of political prisoners in Azerbaijan (on which they are now included) – then let the MEPs who vote on this know. Nominations for the Sakharov Prize can be made by: Political groups in the European Parliament. Or At least 40 MEPs. The deadline for nominations is Thursday 18 September at 12:00 in Strasbourg. NOTE: In order to decide on a nominee from their group some political groups have internal deadlines in the course of the next week. The next days are crucial. Annual EPP Group Intercultural Dialogue with Churches and Religious Institutions was held on Wednesday, 9 December 2020 via video conference. The title of the conference was “The Future of Europe” and it was divided into two sessions: Session I. Focused on «The position of Churches and Religious Communities concer- ning Europe’s future». Session II. Dealt with the issue “What do Churches and Religious Communities think of citizens’ and faithfuls’ expectations on the future of Europe». The event brought politicians and religious representatives together to look at the medium to long-term future of Europe. In the broader institutional context, the conference was an opportunity for EPP Group Members to reflect with Church leaders and religious experts about finding new forms of collaboration among different sections of society and about identifying viable paths helping to strengthen social cohesion and peaceful coexistence in Europe. The EPP Group is the only political Group in the European Parliament that holds a structured and regular dialogue with churches and religious organisations. EPP Group MEPs, religious leaders, government representatives, NGOs, guests and the interested public participate in the annual dialogue conferences. These high-level events discuss current issues pertinent to the European Union, intercultural relations and the dialogue between religions and politics.

Results of the 3rd Round of European HomeParliaments by Pulse of Europe: “The future of European solidarity” Status: 04.01.2021 Dear participants, dear politicians, Thanks to the support of EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and 30 ded- icated EU politicians, Pulse of Europe succeeded during this round of Euro- pean HomeParliaments in imple- menting innovations for the partic- ipation of citizens in EU politics. Pulse of Europe provides the first pan-European, scalable grassroots project for the participation of Euro- peans in EU policy decisions. It works both offline in a private environment and now also online via our Video HomeParliaments. Our mission is to create a per- manent, bottom-up format for engaging with EU policymakers. For the first time, late 2020 people from Ger- many, Austria, Italy, Luxembourg, Poland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, Portugal, Spain, Bulgaria and France exchanged their expectations for the EU. In addition, numer- ous cross-border HomeParliaments con- tributed to a transnational European dialogue. About 700 Europeans participated in local HomeParliaments. Another 500 discussed the future of European solidarity via the new Video HomeParliaments. Bruksela, dnia 8 lipca 2014 r. Sprawozdanie nr 64/2014 Sprawozdanie nt. obsady stanowisk w Parlamencie Europejskim 2014-2019 Bruksela, 8 lipca 2014 r. Metodologia Podstawą rozstrzygnięć pomiędzy grupami politycznymi, jak i wewnątrz grup politycznych dotyczących obsady kluczowych stanowisk w PE jest system d’Hondta. Cały proces przebiega w toku negocjacji politycznych, w których ścierają się interesy grup politycznych oraz delegacji narodowych. W grupach politycznych, w zależności od liczby uzyskanych mandatów, tworzy się specjalny system punktów, przy wykorzystaniu którego dokonuje się podziału konkretnych stanowisk. W całym procesie dba się o zrównoważoną reprezentację dużych delegacji krajowych we wszystkich gremiach – np. także na stanowiskach wiceprzewodniczących PE (stanowiska reprezentacyjne o mniejszym znaczeniu politycznym, ale ważne dla prestiżu całego PE). I. The European Commission also refers to the fact that the European Parliament and stakeholders want the EU to set an objective to end homelessness by 2030, which was most recently called for in the report on ‘Access to Decent and Affordable Housing’. As Nicolas Schmit, European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, Ana Mendes Godinho, Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security in Portugal, and Yves Leterme, Goodwill Ambassador for the Fight against Homelessness in Europe, jointly stated in June 20201: “Though complex, homelessness is not insurmountable and can be overcome. Ending homelessness requires resolute action addressing its root causes, and investing in prevention and empowerment strategies. The European Union also has an important role to play: it can rally all interested stakeholders around a shared goal, galvanise the political commitment of Member States, facilitate exchange of best practice and support the scale-up of evidence-based policies via the EU budget.” While we welcome the proposal for an EU Platform on Combatting Homelessness and the High Level Conference on it as important steps for putting homelessness on the European agenda and supporting Member States’ actions, we regret that the European Commission did not include a shared European goal to reduce and ultimately end homelessness as a sub-target of the poverty reduction target in the action plan.
