Dear Parishioners, Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid”. These words taken from this weekend’s gospel are ones we need to hear from time to time. There are all sorts of things lurking around our lives that can be a source of fear or anxiety. We worry about our health and our wellbeing, we worry about our children, and we worry about our future. The great medieval theologian, St. Bonaventure, in meditating on this hen I passage, refl ected on the blessings that come from having, “eyes of faith”. heard Through the gift of faith, we can see what others do not see. Annual Catholic Appeal "Come, Follow Me...and share the Word"

During the last few weeks, many parish families received a letter from COME, FOLLOW ME… Cardinal Cupich requesting your participation in pledging to the 2019 Annual and share the Word Catholic Appeal. We ask that you respond as generously as possible. The Appeal supports both Parish and Archdiocesan ministries, and funds 2019 Annual Catholic Appeal services that are of great help here in our Parish. annualcatholicappeal.com This year, the theme of the Appeal is “Come, Follow Me…and share the Word.” We have all received God’s love. By fi nancially supporting the ministries and services funded by the Annual Catholic Appeal, we help to extend God’s love to many, many others. As you review the mailing from Cardinal Cupich, take note of those services that directly support the work of our parish and please give generously. When our parish reaches its goal of $235,600.00 in paid pledges, all additional funds contributed will be returned to us for use in our Parish. © Copyright Jorge Cocco Santangelo. (cont. from pg. 2) the resources raised by your generous pledges. Soon we will have a Town Hall Meeting to get your feedback. The Parish Pastoral Council will make recommendations to me to determine how best we should proceed. This weekend we will be playing a recording from Cardinal Cupich at the masses regarding his refl ections on the sexual abuse crises facing the Church. The Cardinal is one of the main voices in organizing the upcoming international meeting of bishops in Rome, convened by Pope Francis. Considering the ongoing developments regarding this painful moment in the life of the Church, I have joined with other pastors in our deanery to provide another listening session to discuss and refl ect on people’s concerns. The voice of the laity is essential if we have any chance to purify the Church and develop structures of real reform. On February 18 there will be a listening session with Bishop Bartosic at 7 p.m. at St. Isaac Jogues, 8149 Golf Road, Niles , in their Holy Family Room. Please attend if you can. The Holy Spirit will lead us to a new place in confronting this devastating reality. We must all pray for the success of these unprecedented meetings to address this crisis. May your week be blessed, Rev. Jerry Boland
