Editoral Liebe Leserinnen und Leser, die neue Ausgabe des Institutsberichts erscheint kurz vor dem 3. Ostasientag, der am Freitag, den 26.11.1999 ab 16 Uhr im Mercatorhaus der Universität stattfindet. Er wird diesmal unter dem Motto "Asien und Europa vor der Jahrtausendwende: Neue Chancen und Herausforde- rungen" stehen. Zum Sommersemester 1999 konnten zwei weitere der sechs ostasienbezogenen Professuren besetzt werden. Beide neuen Professoren waren vorher an japanischen Universitäten tätig. Florian Coulmas von der Chûô Universität in Tôkyô nahm den Ruf auf die Professur für Sprache und Kultur/Geschichte Ostasiens an, Karen Shire kam von der International Christian University, ebenfalls in Tôkyô, an die Universität Duisburg und übernahm die Professur für Gesellschaft Japans. Die letzte noch offene Professur für Wirtschaft Chinas hoffen wir, bis zum Sommersemester 2000 besetzen und damit erstmals mit "voller Besatzung" arbeiten zu können. Die letzten Monate waren von der "Strukturdebatte" an der Universität geprägt. Die Gerhard- Mercator-Universität diskutierte über die Neustrukturierung der Fächer und neue Schwer- punkte in Forschung und Lehre.

His lifesize C hrist Embracing the Cross is part of the permanent collection of Saint Louis University Museum of Art (SLUMA) and he is responsible for the portrait bust of Dr. Richard Chaifetz on permanent display at The Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis. FOX TV commissioned Hitchcock to create over 20 full bodysculptures for its hit show The Swan, and The WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) retained the artist to create bodycast sculptures of its wrestling “superstars” for the Wrestlemania Fan Access show held at Toronto’s Skydome. Hitchcock’s work can be seen on the small and big screen including a local feature on Living St. Louis. Hitchcock has garnered numerous awards and accolades for his work including the 2006 Artistic Achieve - ment and Public Relations Award from the Association of Lifecasting International, (ALI); the 1997 Broad - cast Design Award for MGM/UA’s Outer Limits limited edition sculpture, and the designation of being among “The OUT 100” in 2001, an annual list of the 100 most influential gay men and lesbians in Amer - ica, according to OUT magazine. He is the author of Dark Impressions, The Art of Philip Hitchcock.
