MISSION OF THE PROGRAM: CARE – COMPASSION - CHARITY The cost of Cardiac Surgery in India is very high (Rs. 100,000 to Rs. 300,000 per ) and such facilities are available at private Corporate Hospitals, which are affordable only to the upper middle and rich classes. The Government has a few State funded hospitals in bigger cities like Mumbai, Pune and Kolhapur where Cardiac surgical care is provided at subsidized cost. However because of the large number of patients seeking treatment not all patients can avail and benefit form these Government Hospitals. The Miraj Heart Institute provides subsidized Cardiac surgical care (Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 150,000 per patient) with a very high level of professional skill and a compassionate approach. A small baby being prepared for Surgery 70 years old patient recovering after Bypass Surgery We treat almost the whole spectrum of Congenital and Acquired Heart Diseases as well as perform Thoracic and Vascular Surgery. (Bypass Surgery) Our surgical results are comparable with the best Corporate Hospitals in India but at less than half the cost. The Miraj Heart Institute has an ongoing Visiting program wherein Cardiac Surgeons, Cardiologists, Cardiac Anesthetists, Perfusionists and Operating room Nurses from the US and Canada regularly visit and provide their professional expertise and help our team to improve further and provide better care.

The prevalence of Rheumatic fever continues to be high in India leading to Rheumatic heart disease in the young patients. So also, Congenital heart disease manifests itself in early childhood. Both these afflictions of the Heart cripple these children and interfere with their overall mental and physical growth. It also hinders their education and training and deprives them of a chance to take part in society successfully. Most of these ailments need early surgical correction before the Heart fails otherwise they have a very poor chance of reaching adulthood. Such Cardiac diseases are the stumbling blocks, which cause these children to falter and fall at the very beginning of life’s great race. We at the Miraj Heart Institute are committed to change this stumbling block into a stepping stone for these unfortunate children and help them run this great race of life successfully, with dignity and grace.

Operated Children at discharge If these children receive proper surgical care at the right time they certainly go on to be active and responsible members of their family and society. It is an investment for the future to build a healthy nation. The “Gift of Life” Project is the Miraj Heart Institute’s way of involving affluent sections of society to participate in erasing the scourge of cardiac disease in our country. Whether you are an individual, a corporate or an aid foundation, this project helps you reach out to people with heart disorders, especially the young among the rural populace where such incidences are high. Your help empowers our Mission to provide Comprehensive Cardiac Care with Compassion and Charity for the needy and underprivileged sections of society.
