Travel incentives will not apply for horses that have been trained outside Europe but are being transferred to be campaigned in Europe in the name of a European trainer. The racecourse reserves the right to decide what does and what does not qualify for an allowance. Ascot offers connections of each travelling horse (subject to meeting the criteria above) an agreed “all in” travel allowance towards the cost of the venture. This sum will depend on the races being targeted, the horse’s rating and its profile. It is the responsibility of the horse’s connections, thereafter, to settle directly all charges incurred, including the horse shipping, personal flights, stabling, access to training facilities and general expenditure. However, assistance in organising and booking all of the above is available through the International Racing Bureau, under their contract with Ascot. Ascot provide top class raceday hospitality and badges for a reasonable number of connections accompanying any horse when the horse is racing. THURSDAY, JANUARY 17, 2019 REGIONAL SIRES FOR 2019 CANADIAN OWNER/BREEDER BILL GRAHAM PASSES AWAY By Perry Lefko The Canadian Thoroughbred horse racing community is mourning the passing of Bill Graham, a larger than life figure in the industry as a prominent owner, breeder and builder in various capacities. He passed away Tuesday at 81-years-old following a battle with lung cancer. Graham, a burly individual who played three seasons as an offensive lineman in the Canadian Football League, had been involved in the business for almost 50 years. He was inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame in 2014 and was scheduled to receive the E.P. Taylor Award of Merit at this year's Sovereign Awards along with fellow breeder/owner Gus Schickedanz for their lifelong dedication and commitment to Thoroughbred racing and breeding in Canada. He had been riding at the Jersey Shore track since the late 1980s and has been leading rider there 13 times. But rather than struggling outside of the Garden State, Bravo is having a meet to remember at his new home, Del Mar. With a week to go in the meet, Bravo has 20 wins, good for fifth in the standings. • Islamic Ethics in Australian Muslim Everyday Life: a Shi’Ite Perspective Mohamad Younes
Islamic Ethics in Australian Muslim Everyday Life: A Shi’ite Perspective Mohamad Younes Master’s Thesis in Sociology Spring Term 2017 Humanities and Communication Arts Western Sydney University 1 17481784 Mohamad Younes 2 17481784 Mohamad Younes ABSTRACT Despite the strong emphasis on ethics within the Islamic tradition, Islamic ethics itself is scarcely represented as a discipline within academic scholarship (Ansari 1989). Even within this area, Islamic ethics have predominantly been studied from Sunni perspectives, with little attention being paid to Shi’ite or other minority understandings. This thesis will, therefore, use qualitative data collection methods of semi-structured in-depth interviews and focus groups, to sociologically study the perceptions, understandings, and applications of Islamic ethics in Australian Shi’ite Muslim everyday living. It will investigate the overarching understanding of Islamic ethics and its specific application in Australian Shi’ite Muslim context. The project's objective, therefore, is twofold: one to strengthen Islamic ethics as an independent discipline; and two to address the scant attention Shi’ite Islamic ethics has received in Islamic ethics scholarship generally. Conceptually, this project will contribute to the understanding of Islamic ethics through a particular analysis of Shi’ite Islamic ethics in an Australian Shi’ite context. This is significant as specific understandings of Islamic ethics in certain contexts help to explain how minority groups such as Shi’ite Muslims develop their own ethical standards to shape social relations in society. In addition, this thesis argues for Shi’ite Islamic ethics to be highly Imamate based; that is, very reliant on the actions and sayings of 12 divinely guided Imams (leaders).

  • World's Top Races of 2017 Dominated by Champions
WORLD’S TOP RACES OF 2017 DOMINATED BY CHAMPIONS SERIES CONTESTS Four QIPCO British Champions Series races were today named as being among the top ten run anywhere around the world last year with Cracksman, the emphatic winner of the QIPCO Champion Stakes on QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot in October, rated the top horse in Europe. The announcement was made at the Longines-sponsored World's Best Racehorse and World's Best Horse Race Ceremony in London this afternoon which saw QIPCO British Champions Series races account for almost a quarter of the world’s top 100 races of 2017. The King George VI & Queen Elizabeth at Ascot in July, sponsored by QIPCO, was rated the top race in the UK and the second best race in the world in 2017, while the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot, the Juddmonte International Stakes at York, and QIPCO Champion Stakes at Ascot all also made the top ten (jointly rated 7th in the world). Thrillingly, Cracksman, rated the world’s third best racehorse courtesy of his seven-length demolition of the field in the QIPCO Champion Stakes on Britain’s richest raceday, remains in training in 2018 along with his stable companion Enable (rated 5th). Her 2017 Series’ triumphs included the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth (sponsored by QIPCO), the Investec Oaks and Darley Yorkshire Oaks, before landing the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and there is the exciting prospect of the pair clashing in the 2018 QIPCO British Champions Series. In addition to the John Gosden-trained pair, a further three horses who lit up the 2017 QIPCO British Champions Series make the world’s top ten, including Ulysses (rated 6th), who won the Coral-Eclipse and subsequently landed the Juddmonte International, together with the Godolphin stars of Harry Angel (rated equal 7th) and victor in the 32Red Sprint Cup and Queen Anne winner, Ribchester (equal 9th) who also make the top ten of the World’s best horses.
