Passport in person. Adult.

To obtain a Brazilian , proof of fulfillment of Brazilian military obligations ( certificate, reservist certificate or exemption certificate) must be provided by all male citizens between 18 and 45 years of age. To obtain a Brazilian passport, proof of fulfillment of electoral duties must be provided by all citizens between 18 and 70 years of age (by printing a “certidão de quitação eleitoral”, at http://www.tse.jus.br/eleitor/certidoes/certidao-de-quitacao-eleitoral.) (Article 14, § 1º, item I, Federal . Decree 5978, Article 22, 4 Dec 2006).

Take very good care of your passport. It is advisable to keep it in a safe place and make copies of its relevant pages.

General information

The Brazilian passport is a personal and non-transferable document. The owner must notify the Australian Police and the Embassy of Brazil immediately, in the event of loss, theft or misplacement.

The Embassy of Brazil only issues to Brazilian citizens. Brazilian adults should travel to Brazil with a Brazilian passport. Adults born abroad or in Australia of Brazilian mother/father must have their Australian birth certificates registered by the Embassy of Brazil prior to applying for a Brazilian passport.

The maximum validity of passports is five (5) years. Validity of Brazilian passports cannot be extended.

The Embassy of Brazil requires up to one hour to do one passport.

Brazilian Embassy in Canberra only sees applicants for consular services by appointment only.

Requirements

1- A$ 80.00 Australia Post Money Order for a new passport when the previous passport is presented or A$ 160.00 in the event of loss, theft, misplacement, damage or destruction of the previous passport. Australia Post Money Order is the sole form of payment accepted. Money Orders must be nominal to “Embassy of Brazil”.

2 - Online application form at https://scedv.serpro.gov.br/ , completed, printed and signed, with photo attached (1 portrait photo, frontal, colour on light background, minimum size 3x4 cm. Photographs digitally printed on plain printing paper are not accepted).

3 - Certificate of fulfillment of electoral duties (for all citizens between 18 and 70 years of age). The certificate must be obtained and printed by the candidate at http://www.tse.jus.br/eleitor/certidoes/certidao-de-quitacao-eleitoral .

4 - Proof of fulfilment of Brazilian military obligations (conscription certificate, reservist certificate or exemption certificate) for all male citizens between 18 and 45 years of age. Only in cases of exceptional emergency will the Embassy of Brazil be able to issue a passport without the military obligations certificate. In such circumstances, the passport will be valid only for a very short term and the bearer must attend in person at the Military Recruitment Office within 30 days of arrival in Brazil. Under no circumstances will a passport be issued for those listed by the Brazilian military authorities as “deserter (AWOL)”, “insubmisso (unsubmissive)” or “eximido (objector)”. 5 - Previous passport. In the event of loss, theft, misplacement, damage or destruction of the previous passport, a Police Report and the form at http://sistemas.mre.gov.br/kitweb/datafiles/Camberra/pt-br/file/Form_perda_de_passaporte.pdf, completed and signed, will be required.

6 - Original, or authenticated copy (by a Notary Public, Justice of the Peace or Brazilian Notary Office (tabelião) of any of the following documents: Brazilian ID card (RG), from any SSP in Brazil; Brazilian ID card from any public office recognized by federal law; Brazilian birth certificate, certificate or divorce certificate; Brazilian Driver’s License (CNH), with photo; Brazilian ID from any legally recognized professional regulatory office;

Applicants who have had their names changed for reason of marriage or divorce must provide the original document of name change (or a copy certified by a Notary Public, Justice of the Peace or Brazilian Notary Office), such as Brazilian marriage certificate, foreign marriage certificate registered at a Embassy of Brazil, Brazilian divorce certificate or a foreign certificate of divorce recognized by a Brazilian judicial authority. Change of names for any reason other than marriage or divorce are not recognized in Brazil without supporting Brazilian judicial decision.
