2011 ORANGE BOWL YOUTH FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS

MIAMI LAKES, Fla.—The Orange Bowl hosted its 2011 Orange Bowl Youth Football (Orange Bowl YFA) Championships presented by Sports Authority on Saturday, December 10 and Sunday, December 11 at Alfonso Field at FIU Stadium. Twenty four teams from seven leagues competed over the two day event in 10 different weight classes.

Now in its 13th season, the Orange Bowl YFA presented by Sports Authority serves more than 16,000 young football players and cheerleaders in nine youth football leagues spread out across South Florida, from Lake Okeechobee to Key West. Since 1999, the Orange Bowl has invested approximately $4.5 million in youth sports in South Florida.

SATURDAY GAME RECAPS: GAME 1 – WEST PARK 27, OPA-LOCKA 6 (75 lbs.): In the battle of Hurricanes, West Park defeated Opa-Locka 27- 6. West Park’s Keshawn Brown stole the show, accounting for all four of his team’s . The West Park Hurricanes opened the scoring in the second quarter on a 29-yard scamper by Brown. Shane Carter completed a pass to Javon Bailey for the point after. West Park scored again near the end of the first half on another 29-yard run run by Brown. With time running out in the first half, the Opa-Locka Hurricanes went to the hurry-up offense and Keywone Jenkins hit Navar Maine for a 45-yard touchdown with just 19 seconds remaining in the half. West Point took a 14-6 lead into the break. The second half was all West Park as they were able to keep Opa-Locka out of the end zone. Brown added some insurance with a 37-yard touchdown and a 54-yard interception return for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

GAME 2 – PBCYFL 18, WCFL 6 (85 lbs.): The Palm Beach County Youth Football League All-Stars scored in the first, second and fourth quarters en route to an 18-6 victory over the Western Communities Football League All-Stars. Ja’Kavian Williams scored two of PBCYFL’s three touchdowns. With nearly four minutes remaining in the first quarter, Williams opened the scoring with a 49-yard touchdown run. In the second quarter, Williams ran for a 79-yard touchdown to put PBCYFL ahead 12-0. Nicholas Iannone scored for WCFL with four minutes to play in the first half, cutting PBCYFL’s lead to 12-6 at halftime. After a scoreless third quarter, Jayce Graves punched home a two-yard touchdown with two minutes remaining in the game, securing a 18-6 victory for PBCYFL.

GAME 3 – WCFL 13, PBYCFL 6 (120 lbs.): A goal line stand with a minute left in regulation secured a 13-6 victory for the Western Communities All-Stars over the Palm Beach County Youth Football League All-Stars. PBCYFL had first and goal on the three yard line before WCFL defense held its ground and forced a . WCFL Jordan Travis scored in the first and second quarters on two one-yard touchdown runs. WCFL converted one of its two extra point conversions. PBCYFL’s Nick Hollis scored with eight minutes remaining in the second quarter to cut their deficit to one point at the time. All three touchdown runs in the game come from the one yard line.

GAME 4 – PBCYFL 24, WEST BOCA TACKLE FOOTBALL 6 (140 lbs.): A one score game through nearly three quarters was broken open in the second half by the Palm Beach County Youth Football League All-Stars en route to a 24-6 victory over the West Boca Tackle Football All-Stars. Traionn Jones opened the scoring on a seven-yard touchdown run with two minutes remaining in the first quarter. After PBCYFL’s first score, the two teams went scoreless until the final play of the third quarter. West Boca’s Matt Gross ran off right tackle and was hit by PBCYFL’s Josef Lawson who forced the ball loose. Marcus Frazier recovered the fumble at West Boca’s 38 yard line and ran untouched into the endzone, putting PBCYFL up 16-0. Tremayne Willis Jr. scored PBCYFL’s final touchdown with seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. West Boca picked off PBCYFL three times and scored on a 52-yard touchdown with less than two minutes remaining in the game.

GAME 5 – DICK CONLEY MEMORIAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE 0, PBCYFL 28 (165 lbs.): Behind three second-quarter touchdowns, the Palm Beach County Youth Football League All-Stars defeated the Dick Conley Memorial Football League All-Stars 28-0. Trinton Hanson caught one touchdown and ran for another in the second quarter and Shannon Patrick threw two touchdown passes in PBCYFL’s shutout victory. The highlight of the game came with five minutes remaining in the first half when PBCYFL running back Tavares Martin took a handoff and threw a 75-yard halfback pass to Hanson for a touchdown. PBCYFL capped their scoring with five minutes left in regulation as Patrick hit wide receiver Dre’Vontae Jackson for a 26-yard touchdown.

GAME 6 – PBCYFL 0, WCFL 19 (105 lbs.): On the heels of three short touchdown runs, the Western Communities Football League All-Stars defeated the Palm Beach County Youth Football League All-Stars 19-0. Anarjahe Douriet opened the scoring WCFL with less than two minutes remaining in the first quarter. Douriet ran the middle from the four yard line to give WCFL its first score. Kyle Johnson punched in another four-yard touchdown for WCFL at the five minute make of the second quarter to put WCFL ahead 13-0 in the second quarter. Five minutes into the third quarter, Vincent Cerasuolo scored WCFL’s final touchdown of the game on a three-yard touchdown run capping the scoring and securing WCFL’s 19-0 victory.

SUNDAY GAME RECAPS: GAME 1 – WASHINGTON PARK BUCCANEERS 24, FORT PIERCE SEMINOLES 0 (175 lbs): Three different Washington Park Buccaneers players scored touchdowns as the Bucs defeated the Fort Pierce Seminoles 24-0. Isaiah Michael scored the first Buccaneers touchdown with just under four minutes remaining in the first quarter on an 11-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Janarvis Pough. At the five minute mark of the second quarter, Pough was intercepted by Fort Pierce’s Richard Betty who returned the interception for a touchdown. The Seminoles’ pick-six was called back on a block in the back penalty, but Fort Pierce retained possession of the ball. On the Seminoles ensuing drive, Betty was picked off by Devon Bell who went 44 yards to the endzone. The Buccaneers recovered and onside kick to open the second half of play and capped their scoring with a safety and a Kendrick Belfon rushing touchdown in the third quarter.

GAME 2 – NORTH MIAMI BEACH 22, FORT PIERCE 0 (105 lbs): The North Miami Beach Sun Devils held the Fort Pierce Seminoles off the scoreboard en route to a 22-0 victory. Sun Devil running back J'Veion Johnson scored the first North Miami Beach touchdown midway through the first quarter. With less than two minutes remaining in the first half, Sun Devil quarterback Tyreke Jackson hit wide receiver Wendell Morrison for a touchdown that put North Miami Beach ahead 13-0. The Sun Devils final touchdown came in the fourth quarter, when Kamryn Giles ran 24 yards into the endzone. The game was called with eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter when injuries mounted for Fort Pierce.

GAME 3 – LAKE STEVENS CARDINALS 12, HIALEAH OPTIMIST CLUB 6 (120lbs.): A key special teams play resulted in the winning score as the Lake Stevens Cardinals defeated the Hialeah Optimist Club 12-6. With just over seven minutes remaining in the third quarter, and the score tied at six, Lake Stevens’ Canron Raye received a punt from Hialeah at his own 30 yard line and returned the kick 70 yards for the game winning score. Hialeah opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game when Isaiah Webster scored a rushing touchdown. Lake Stevens answered to tie the score at six with nearly three minutes remaining in the first half when Shelton Peaks scampered 19 yards for a touchdown. The Lake Stevens Cardinals secured victory when they forced and recovered a Hialeah fumble with 46 seconds remaining in the game.

GAME 4 – KENDALL HAMMOCKS WARRIORS 28, HELPING HANDS BULLS 7 (130 lbs.): Three rushing touchdowns helped the Kendall Hammocks Warriors to a 28-7 victory over the Helping Hands Bulls. Harvey Clayton Jr. scored first of two first-quarter touchdowns for the Warriors on a four-yard scamper eight minutes into the game. Two minutes later, Luis Bello returned a Helping Hands’ punt 30 yards for a touchdown to put the Warriors up 16-0. Kendall Hammocks added two second-quarter touchdowns, one from Mehki Ervan and the other from Darnell Durham, and went ahead 28-0 at halftime. Alvin Smith Jr. accounted for Helping Hands’ only touchdown on a 30-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.

GAME 5 – WEST PARK HURRICANES 25, PAHOKEE BABY BLUE DEVILS 0 (90 lbs.): The West Park Hurricanes pulled out all the stops en route to their 25-0 victory over the Pahokee Baby Blue Devils. The Hurricanes opened the scoring with a highlight reel touchdown three minutes into the game. Quarterback Thaddius Franklin handed off to running back Jarvis Brownlee who threw to The’Andris Freeman for the opening touchdown. The Hurricanes added another touchdown in the first quarter on a four-yard run by Brownlee. In the second quarter, Franklin put the Hurricanes up 19-0 on his three-yard touchdown run. Freeman capped the scoring with his second receiving touchdown of the game on a 34-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter.

GAME 6 – KENDALL BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB 11, PAHOKEE BABY BLUE DEVILS 6 (145 lbs.): In a game dominated by the defense in the second half, the Kendall Boys and Girls Club Kolts defeated the Pahokee Baby Blue Devils 11-6. Both teams were held off the scoreboard in the final two quarters and combined for two interceptions over the final 20 minutes of play. Kendall’s Beymar Piraquive opened the scoring four minutes into the first quarter as he connected on a 27-yard field goal, the first only field goal of the 2011 Orange Bowl YFL Championships. Daren Jones scored on a 17-yard touchdown run to put the Kolts ahead 11-0 with five minutes remaining in the first half. On the final play of the first half, McArthur Burnett scored on a 14-yard touchdown run, cutting Kendall’s lead to 11-6.
