Palavras-chave: Mighty Sounds, Punk, Música, Festivais de Verão, República Checa, Praga 3 Abstract Although Punk has emerged in the late 70s as a revolutionary counter-culture that opposed the prevailing social values of English society, the industry quickly absorbed this social movement. -

Words by Dan Keeling Noble Rot Photographs by meets ecstatic synth- SHOOT FROM THE CHIP SHOOT Benjamin McMahon poppers Hot Chip “Gordon Ramsay used to cook here a long time ago,” says Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard, reading the menu at Chez Bruce in Wandsworth. “When I last ate here, a friend from uni was working in the kitchen and I absolutely loved it.” To Joe’s left, fellow band member Al Doyle is enjoying his first drink of the evening – Vouette & Sorbée ‘Saignée de Sorbée’ Champagne – after a day rehearsing in a nearby studio for the band’s imminent support headline slot at Hackney’s All Points East festival. With their new album heralding a high point in their long career (it’s their seventh), the aptly titled A Bath Full of Ecstasy has a blend Dan Keeling: Do you cook at home? Joe Goddard: I cook all the time. I’ve got a Green of synth melodies, bouncing house basslines Egg barbecue and cook a lot of seafood, as well as buying a lot of nice wines from Bottle Apostle to try and soulful vocals that makes it one of our to pair with it. I’m interested in the weirder side of wine. This Vouette & Sorbée reminds me of a records of the year at Rotter Towers. Imagine delicious sparkling red from near Barcelona that I’ve been drinking recently called La Rosita by Pamela Geddes. It’s dry and fruity: it tastes like sparkling Erasure jamming with Daft Punk, Laid Back and Ribena to me, and I’m into that! Frankie Knuckles in a lift, and you might be Al Doyle: It’s delicious and quite unusual – it almost tastes like Pét-Nat rather than Champagne. -

Throughout history, art rejoices and revels in the wisdom of women. Within a deck of tarot cards, the High Priestess serves as the guardian of the unconscious. In Greek mythology, the old oracles celebrate the Mother Goddess. William Shakespeare posited portentous prescience in the form of MacBeth’s “Three Witches.” On their sixth full-length album Ritual, In This Moment—Maria Brink [vocals, piano], Chris Howorth [lead guitar], Travis Johnson [bass], Randy Weitzel [rhythm guitar], and Kent Diimel [drums]—unearth a furious and focused feminine fire from a cauldron of jagged heavy metal, hypnotic alternative, and smoky voodoo blues. It’s an evolution. It’s a statement. It’s In This Moment 2017… “It’s like we’re going into the next realm,” asserts Maria. “I had a conviction of feeling empowered in my life and with myself. I always write from a personal place, and I needed to share that sense of strength. I’ve never been afraid to hold back. Sometimes, I can be very suggestive. However, I wanted to show our fans that this is the most powerful side of myself and it’s without overt sexuality. It’s that deeper serious fire inside of my heart.” “What Maria is saying comes from deep inside,” Chris affirms. “This time, we had a bunch of ideas started before we hit the studio. There was a really clear direction. It’s different.” The group spent two years supporting their biggest album yet 2014’s Black Widow. Upon release, it seized their highest position to date on the Billboard Top 200, bowing at #8. -

Beyond the Black Are Most Certainly That. You're in Doubt?
Lost in Forever - LIVE Stratospheric? Beyond The Black are most certainly that. You’re in doubt? Let’s explain… …Only two years ago, dynamic frontwoman and world-class vocalist Jennifer Haben and her band colleagues celebrated their live debut on stage at the legendary Wacken Open Air 2014. A few months later they were supporting the legendary SAXON on their UK tour. On February 13th 2015 the band released their debut full-length album Songs of Love and Death, which hit the German top 20 album charts, and which was produced by melodic metal maestro Sascha Paeth (Avantasia, Edguy, Epica, Kamelot, Rhapsody). You’ve probably already guessed that the album was royally received throughout Europe, with Haben establishing herself as one of the leading voices in hard rock and metal music. Beyond The Black continued to conquer the road. They played their own headliner tour in spring and autumn 2015, and featured at several of Germany’s biggest rock & metal- festivals. Momentum is beautiful thing; Beyond The Black supported Queensrÿche in Holland and Within Temptation in Switzerland, and their incredible ascent culminated in them receiving the “Best Debut Album 2015” Metal Hammer Award. Welcoming the Black Sheep by George Lings – Director of Church Army’S Anglican Church Led for Many Years by John Research Unit Simons
Issue 4: Welcoming the black sheep by George Lings – Director of Church Army’s Anglican church led for many years by John Research Unit Simons. (Oddly enough, I know John because we both were called out of work for the Bank of Foundations and calling England into life in the Church of England.) Having made a profession of faith at the age of eight, Mark was later part of the youth group, Mark Broomhead, the founder of The Order of yet also at home in the adult church as a the Black Sheep (TOBS), was born in 1971. member of Deanery Synod. This is one instance Looking back across his life it is not difficult to see of what seems like his effortless ability to the beginnings of the apparently disparate combine unlikely elements as though they were strands that have become connected and entirely natural. significant in what has emerged since 2006. This trait continued, in that from the years eight to 12 he discovered and appreciated the music of the heavy metal band Judas Priest. I admit complete ignorance of this band and genre. That academically dubious yet ubiquitous source of information, Wikipedia, tells me that after inauspicious years since their founding in 1969, Judas Priest made their mark around 1980 and the years immediately following. An album of that time, British Steel, is said to be their long- term best seller. This induction to that overall culture, with attendant dress and patterns of socialising, followed in Mark’s teenage years. It provoked the question, sharper in those days, of whether - let alone how - heavy metal and Christian faith could be combined. -
