Although the author denies that the novel is an allegory of war, many people believe that he was influenced greatly by the First and Second World Wars. My research question was "How did the Two World Wars Influence John Ronald Reuel Tolkien During the Creation of “ the Lord of the Rings” Trilogy ?" . I will analyze the similarities between the events in the novel and the events during the two world wars and strive to point out how Tolkien was influenced by these. The most important allegory is the battle between the ultimate evil of Sauron (ie. Nazism and Fascism) and the free peoples of Middle Earth. Although evil is far more powerful and aggressive in the beginning, the determination and valor of a coalition of unlikely allies wins in the end. Several other points exist in the novel that are directly related to the events during the world wars. -

He has written famous books like The Hobbits and The Silmarillion, but his literary reputation mainly rests upon his fantasy-romance novel, The Lord of the Rings. Since its publication, the novel has got great popularity among western countries. It was even selected as “the most popular book in history” on line. As Hollywood director Peter Jackson’s film The Lord of the Rings was filmed, a zealous love for “the magic ring” has wiped throughout the world. No matter scholars or common enthusiasm readers both show great passion for this novel. Archetypal analysis and the origin of myth in Middle-earth, fantasy technique etc. have been widely used to review or interpret the text of this novel. Based on the intertextual interpretation of J.R.R.Tolkien’s life experience and the novel, and through the viewpoint of ecological responsibility consciousness this paper attempts to explore Tolkien’s seek of homeland, which reveals Tolkien’s country yearning and furthermore presents his ecological value. The first thing he saw was Gollum ‘pawing at master,’ as he thought. “Hey you!” he said roughly, “What are you up to?” “Nothing, nothing,” said Gollum softly. “Nice Master.” “I daresay,” said Sam. “But where have you been to – sneaking off and sneaking back, you old villain?” Gollum withdrew himself, and a green light flickered under his heavy lids. Augsburg Honors Review Romantic Theology as Revelation through Tom Bombadil and Goldberry in Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings Brandon Best Cedarville University Abstract In J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, Tom Bombadil initially appears to be merely an eccentric, episodic character. Yet, upon close reading his enchanting spirit embodies moral signifcance throughout the trilogy when members in the war against Sauron recall his spirit in moments of hope and despair. Though he only appears to the Hobbits within the Old Forest, Bombadil represents ideals present throughout the entire story. As Tolkien wrote, “[Bombadil] represents something that I feel important, though I would not be prepared to analyze the feeling precisely. I would not, however, have left him in, if he did not have some kind of function” (Letters 178).
