Deze reeks van 6 voorjaarsklassiekers wordt net als de afgelopen seizoenen officieel op gang getrokken tijdens 72ste editie van de Omloop Het Nieuwsblad op zaterdag 25 februari in Gent. Samen met Flanders Classics zet Proximus in op een extra beleving rond het openingsweekend. De Ploegenvoorstelling in het Kuipke wordt live gestreamd op de Proximus Facebookpagina. Seven hundred and ten professional riders (Mean + SD: 27.9 + 4.2 years, 1.81 + 0.06 m, 68.6 + 6.33 kg) were coMpared for physical characteristics (i.e. age, height, and body Mass). The top 25% within rider specialties were selected as the saMple group based upon Pro Cycling Stats points General Classification, sprinter, tiMe-trialists, one-day racer earned during the previous season. An additional rider classification was created for those riders outside of the top 25% of all categories called DoMestique. General Classification riders in the WT were older than PC, however, there were no other differences between rider specialties. However, differences were found in anthropoMetric characteristics within the different divisions (i.e. height, body Mass, body surface area, and frontal area). In conclusion, the present study identified specific physical characteristic differences between the different types of professional cyclist levels of riders (WT vs. PC) and within their specialty of rider, which May deterMine when a rider May Move to the WT froM the PC. The question of the possibility for the parties to deviate, by special agreement, from the general rule of Article R57 of the CAS Cod needs to be considered in a broader context, taking in mind the nature and function of the CAS and those mandatory rules that may limit the power of an association to limit access to justice. The CAS jurisdiction cannot be imposed to the detriment of an athlete’s fundamental rights. In other words, an athlete basically cannot be precluded from obtaining in CAS arbitration at least the same level of protection of his/her substantive rights that he or she could obtain before a State court. In conclusion, the unrestricted scope of review of the CAS Panel as provided under Article R57 of the CAS Code may be validly limited to the same standard of review as the standard provided by State court proceedings. In Switzerland, this would mean that a review of a cassatory nature (“nature cassatoire”) as provided at Article 75 CC would be accepted.

The newly elected EC, which will be led by President Janez Kocijančič, will guide the EOC for the next two Olympic Games in PyeongChang in 2018 and in Tokyo in 2020. The new EC will also lead the EOC at two Youth Olympic Games, in Buenos Aires in 2018 and in Lausanne in 2020. On a continental level, 2018 means for the EOC the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona and above all preparations in view of a busy 2019, which includes the Winter European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Sarajevo & East Sarajevo, the Summer EYOF in Baku and of course the second edition of the European Games in Minsk! After his election in Zagreb, EOC President Kocijančič said: “I am honoured to be elected to lead the European Olympic Committees over the next four years. The EOC has the opportunity to achieve great things in the near future, and I will work hard with the newly elected Executive Committee to ensure the EOC reaches its potential. The election of the new Executive Committee marked a great opportunity to reflect on the successes of the past four years, but also gave us the chance to look at how our past successes can help us continue to improve in the future.

In september strijkt immers de wielerhoogmis van het jaar neer op het uitdagend parcours van GP Jef Scherens. De 2021 UCI Road World Championships gaan door in Vlaande- ren, met als zwaartepunt de aankomst van de 5 wegritten met de lokale ronden in Leuven. Ons wielerhart gaat dus al sneller slaan als we eraan denken dat de wedstrijd dit jaar ook een ideale test is voor wielrenners die dromen van de regenboogtrui. Helpers en kopmannen, iedereen wilt “Leuven” in zijn benen zitten hebben. Maar ook zonder WK in het vooruitzicht heeft de Grote Prijs alles wat een wielerkoers nodig heeft: suspense, pittige hellingen en een mooi deelnemersveld. Wielerliefhebbers van over de hele wereld hebben 4 dus zondag 15 augustus met rood omcirkeld in hun agenda. Als stad zijn we ook dankbaar dat we voor deze wedstrijd kunnen rekenen op de sterke organisatie van de Koninklijke Stoempersclub, die al jaar en dag de Grote Prijs in goede banen leidt.
