Mallow Gears up for Rebel Tour \ is gearing up for the fifth and final event of the 2009 An Post Cycle Series, the An Post . f Rebel Tour, which will take place in Mallow on Sunday, 13th September. One of Cork sport's 1 at s* finest footballers, the Rebels Colm O'Neill was on hand to launch the An Post Rebel Tour s* Mallow GAA Complex on August 1 1th. Colm was joined by the McNamara family, who are -. keen cyclists, as well as members of An Post, Garda Siochaha and Mallow GAA. ' The An Post Cycle Series, in association with the Irish Sports Council, encourages communities : * success, , * around the country to 'get on your bike' and the initiative has been a huge with leisure * cycles in Sligo, the Burren and Meath already drawing over 2,500 cyclists. The Scan Kelly }" Tour of Waterford will take place at the end of August and the Rebel Tour will complete the % cycle series, so the people of Cork need to 'get on your bike' and finish the series in style. | The Rebel Tour is organised by the Cork Local Sports Partnership and local partners, and ; volunteers who can offer their time on the day to help the event to run successfully are warmly * welcomed. jj The event will involve three different routes to accommodate all levels of cyclists and promises __ to be a great way for families to spend a day of fun together, while the more serious rider can % enjoy a more challenging route. This one day cycling event affords people of Cork and visitors to the county the chance to enjoy stunning scenery, ranging from majestic mountains to » picturesque county scenery and rural villages from the saddle ofa bike. *_, The 10km Family Fun Cycle route is all about family participation and enjoyment. The cyclists '; will start at 12 noon on September 13th from Mallow GAA Sports Complex in Carrigoon and *g head into Mallow town via the N72 road. The route enters Mallow at the Clock House t roundabout and loops around the town before finishing back at Mallow GAA Sports Complex. » The Mount Hillary 60km circuit starts at Mallow GAA Sports Complex at 10.30 am and passes . out of Mallow along the N72 Killarney road. The route heads south along the old Kanturk road ~§ through Banteer, (where there will be a food and drinks stop) and loops around Mount Hillary, j the most northerly summit in the Boggeragh Mountains area. The cyclists will make their way | back to die finish at the Mallow GAA Sports Complex via Gortroe and . I The Mushera and Nadd Mountains 1 30 km Challenge takes in the scenery of the Boggeragh | . Mountains, passing along historic trails such as the old Butter Road and Aghinagh Way. There g I are also some challenging climbs past Mushera Mountain and on the way to Nadd village.
