Mud Run Fundraiser Thursday,15th December Rock and Water Leadership Course Congratulations to our first group of students from years 7-10 who have been a part of Manilla Central Schools first Rock and Water personal development course.

The Rock & Water program is an experience that provides young people a pathway to self-awareness, and increased self- confidence and social functioning.

Each participant of the Rock & Water program undergoes a journey of self-awareness as they learn about responding to life with either a “rock” or a “water” attitude. The use of symbolism is central to the success of the Rock & Water program.

The program is an excellent tool to support young people in finding their grounding, learning how to centre oneself and learning how to self-manage in social settings.

Topics covered in the program include: intuition, body language, mental strength, empathic feeling, positive feeling, positive thinking and positive visualizing. Discussion topics include bullying, sexual harassment, homophobia, life goals, desires and following an inner compass.

Participants will receive many Rock & Water games, options, strategies and exercises that can teach young people:

Verbal and emotional expression. Identity development Physical boundaries and personal safety Emotional and behavioural regulation.

Our students all reported 100% engagement and enjoyment with all students walking away from the course with a higher level of self-awareness.

The students tested their skills developed at our rewards day, last Thursday , playing bubble soccer and participating in the graduating activity of “breaking the boards”

We look forward to broadening the program in 2017, with the aim to have all MCS secondary students engage in the program by the time they leave school.

Big thanks to Mr Connors who jointly ran sessions with Mrs Taylor- together making a great team in exemplifying the principles of Rock and Water. Kindy Celebration On Tuesday last, Kindegarten celebrated completing a successful first year at school with a performance of Don’t Call me Bear. Parents and grandparents were delighted to see the children perform with such confidence and aplomb. Well done Kindergarten!
