3 Waitangi Day Bowls Report By Ken Stephens

Waitangi Day dawned fine and sunny for the Waitangi Day Roll-up at the Kaka Point Bowling green after 160 millimeters of rain earlier in the week. We had 13 teams of triples register, mostly local social bowlers who came for a fun afternoon of bowls. If the talking and laughing was any indication, everyone had an enjoyable time, and a few likely bowlers arrived with some bowls belonging to their older relatives, which was good to see.

Club Treasurer, John Bissett, had the tricky job of sort- ing everyone into teams, which he did very well and we played 3 games of 6 ends.

A trophy had been specially crafted for the day by one of the club’s junior members, Mark Mckeever. This was won by a team from our neighbouring club, Owaka. The team members were Munro Bunting (skip), Barry Gray and Stephen Fox.

The after-match function meal consisting of local pro- duce from the sea and the land, was also organized and cooked by Mark, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all .

Overall the day was a great success and is set to be- come an annual event. Pictured: Barry Leslie and Munro Bunting, two of the winning triples team on Waitangi The biggest problem may be limiting the number of Day, with their beautiful trophy. people who want to participate!!!
