^ Section Leader * Ella Fitzgerald Scholar ABOUT CHRISTINE HELFERICH GUTER Christine Helferich Guter is the Director of Vocal Jazz at the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at California State University, Long Beach. She has an active career as a jazz vocalist and studio singer in the Greater Los Angeles area, and has performed with many legendary musicians including Joe Williams, Maynard Ferguson, Bobby McFerrin, Rosemary Clooney, and Lionel Hampton. Christine works extensively in studio settings and has sung on dozens of Hollywood soundtracks including Star Wars Rogue One, Star Trek Beyond, Ready Player One, Jurassic World, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Despicable Me 2, Happy Feet, and more.

In addition to her university duties and professional vocal work, Christine is active nationally as a guest conductor, lecturer, adjudicator, and clinician. She has served as the Vocal Jazz Representative for both California ACDA and Western Division ACDA and has served on the board of the California Alliance for Jazz (CAJ). She is sought after as a clinician and adjudicator for jazz festivals and workshops throughout the United States, Canada, and Asia. She currently serves as the vocal representative on the board of “Jazz Education Abroad” and is the jazz voice instructor for the Thailand Jazz Workshop in Bangkok. Christine is honored to have been the recipient of the 2018 DownBeat Magazine “Jazz Education Achievement Award,” and is proud to have received her bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and her master’s degree from the University of Miami..

ABOUT PACIFIC STANDARD TIME Pacific Standard Time is the top vocal jazz ensemble at CSULB’s Bob Cole Conservatory of Music. The group has had the honor of performing at the most prestigious educational events in the country, including the Jazz Education Network Conference, the International Association for Jazz Education Conference, National and Regional American Choral Directors Association Conferences, and multiple California Music Education state conferences. Pacific Standard Time has also performed at the Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl, the Los Angeles Jazz Festival, Newport Beach Jazz Party, and West Coast Jazz Party. The ensemble has also had the great honor of performing with internationally renowned jazz vocalists such as Kurt Elling, Peter Eldridge and Dena DeRose. In 2009, 2011, 2014, and 2019 Pacific Standard Time competed at the Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival, and won first place in the Collegiate Vocal Jazz Ensemble category all four times. They were invited back to perform at the historical and prestigious 52nd, 54th, 57th, and 62nd Annual Monterey Jazz Festivals.
