Youth development has been at the heart of our club ethos for many years, and we’re thrilled to be able to continue to create more active participation for local youngsters. The side will also look the part with two new Nike kits – a special thanks to Leon at Boommansales.com for sponsoring. Our Under 18’s started their campaign with a defeat at home to a very talented Shoreham side in their first game in the County Youth league, but am sure will bounce back in what is a new challenge for Rick Ken- nett’s team with some promising talent that will soon be knocking on the senior’s door. CHAIRMAN’S Do keep a look out for fixture posters dotted around the village and online www.boshamfc.co.uk for news of our up-and-coming youth team CHAT games, and please show them your support at Walton Lane on a Sunday morning. MEN’S Our senior squad have had mixed fortunes in their respective leagues so far. Gary Lines’ first team started with a thumping 6-0 away win at Lancing United on the opening day, followed by a narrow 3-2 defeat at Alfold. A Bank Holiday trip to Ferring saw them come away with a solid three-nil victory. Although disappointed to start at home with defeat to Upper Beeding, am sure that with the quality we have in the squad, we’ll soon be back to winning ways. Our reserve side have had challenging fixtures as Matt Collins’ new look team take on the Wyvern League once again; and I was pleased to see a young side go to Liss and get a 4-3 win. MATCH DAY PROGRAMME & MEDIA Our coveted match day programme unveiled a fresh appearance courtesy of new editor Joe Albertella, taking over from Simon Jasinski. The programme achieved recognition as the =20th best nationally in the annual Soccer Club Swap Shop Awards last season alongside clubs such as Aldershot Town, and we’re delighted that the new edition has been so well received, with Joe taking it on to another level again. Our thanks to Pro Copy Digital for giving the programme a professional look-and-feel in sponsoring – do come down to a fixture soon and get your copy! It’s also available to download online, visit: www.boshamfc.co.uk I would like to welcome Jon Hooper from Southbourne who is studying Level 3 Multi-media Journalism at South Downs Col- lege. Under the guidance of club Secretary and match day reporter, Alan Price, Joe will be supervised on writing reports for the club as part of his work experience. We’re only too happy to help Joe’s studies in whatever way we can, and build our links with a local college. The club is also on the look out for any budding sports photographers and would encourage anyone inter- ested in supplying the local press, our website and social media feeds, to contact me: [email protected] PITCH A big thank you to Mulberry Contractors – who, alongside Andy Probee - have worked tirelessly to get the Walton Lane surface looking like a ‘carpet’ once again for the opening home fixtures for the senior and youth teams. Our thanks also to Fisher Lane Groundcare for carrying out the summer pitch renovation in drill seeding and top-dressing. For those that have been down the Recreation Ground over the last few weeks I’m sure you will agree it is looking in very good condition after all the work that has been put in, with Andy again deserving of the Groundsman of the Year award recently retained for a fourth year running for Step 7 football in Sussex. A NEW HOME & NEW VISION As mentioned in the previous edition of these notes, we are actively looking to move to a new community-orientated facility to help continue the club’s growth and enable promotion further up the non-league pyramid. Initial discussions have been encouraging with various local community groups either coming forward or welcoming my approach directly, with more inter- est still to follow-up. It’s certainly motivating to hear people sharing similar community values to ourselves. Please contact me if you have further thoughts on what can be achieved: [email protected] Neil Redman Good afternoon everyone, and welcome to Walton Lane for our SCFL Division Two encounter with Worthing Town. We welcome the players, management and sup- porters from Worthing who have travelled along the coast today, alongside match referee, David Barnard, and hope they enjoy their short stay. Firstly can I start by apologising to those of you BETWEEN who were here for the first home game of the THE season against Upper Beeding. LINES I was very disappointed with our performance, albeit against a side who are going very well. That said, I couldn’t fault the boys response in training at Warblington and the follow-up at Rustington showed that as a collective, we have a lot more to give. I was gutted to concede an equaliser so late into added on time, but the reaction to our two defeats so far has given the boys the jump start they need to get their season going. The players attitudes and effort deserved more from Rustington, and while there’s still plenty to work on, I know we have the quality in the squad to start moving through the gears and punish sides like we did so well at Lancing United on the opening day. We learn from games like Upper Beeding and Rustington, and move on to what is sure to be another difficult challenge in front of us today, against a much-improved Worthing Town side who come here in sixth spot and searching for a fourth win in seven. Off the field, Matt Collins has decided to step down from managing the reserves this week for non-footballing reasons, which we completely respect. Matt’s a friend away from foot- ball, and I’d like to thank him for all his support in running the side since taking over in the summer, and wish him well. Steve Horsley—reserves Head Coach—is happy to take up a Caretaker role, with the club now inviting applications for the reserve manager, to be sent to [email protected], with more info on the website.
