The amount of rainfall is varied from remote sensing and GIS in Salem District, South India. The either in space or in time (Mahalingam etal. 2014). Rainfall rainfall assessment carried over a period of 16 years from is exclusive variable, which reflects numerous factors 1999 to 2014, which are clearly analyzed by using mean regionally and globally (Jegankumar etal. 2012). Therefore, annual rainfall, mean seasonal rainfall, mean annual this study will assist the people to predict meteorological rainfall variability, mean seasonal rainfall variability, mean condition variation in spatial and temporally of Salem annual precipitation ratio and mean seasonal precipitation district. Journal of Engineering Research and Applications www.ijera.com ISSN : 2248-9622, Vol. 4, Issue 12( Part 5), December 2014, pp.88-99 RESEARCH ARTICLE OPEN ACCESS Identification and Investigation of Solid Waste Dump in Salem District T. Subramani1, S.Krishnan2, C.Kathirvel3, C.T.Sivakumar4 1Professor & Dean, Department Of Civil Engineering, VMKV Engineering College, Vinayaka Missions University, Salem, India. 2Associate Professor and Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Mahendra College of Engineering, Salem, India. 3Assistant Professors, Department Of Civil Engineering, VMKV Engineering College, Vinayaka Missions University, Salem, India. 4Associate Professor, Department Of Civil Engineering, Mahendra Engineering College, Mallasamudram, Namakkal District, Tamilnadu, India ABSTRACT Solid waste management is one of the most significant functions out by ULBs. However, the scarcity of suitable landfill sites is one of the constraints increasingly being faced by ULBs in the discharge of their functions. As a result, even several years after the issuance of the MSW Rules 2000, the state of MSW management systems in the country continues to raise serious public health concerns. Regional or inter- municipal solutions provide a viable option to redress this situation. Working together can be a practical and cost-effective way to discharge common tasks, share resources, and take advantage of the economies of scale that such arrangements would provide. This is applicable in the case of both large municipal bodies which experience scarcity of land resources, as well as smaller ones which may find technical and financial resources a challenge. Therefore, in public interest and with the aim of improving standards of public health and sanitation in the states, the Government of India has developed this Guidance Note on regional solid waste management to facilitate the creation of appropriate strategies by the states and ULBs.

Melody Natasha Mendez 2013 Abstract Unsustainable development worldwide, is leading to a variety of environmental, social and economic issues. Economic growth which impacts these three pillars of sustainability, affects the current populations’ ability to meet their needs or those of future generations. For many developing countries, tourism is an economic developmental tool that can contribute to their economy. However, unsustainable tourism, such as mass tourism, exacerbates socio-environmental issues and can be contributory factors to poverty and environmental degradation. Additionally, strategies to alleviate poverty and conserve the environment may conflict with each other, reducing their efficacy. These issues can be most pronounced in popular tourist destinations and highlight the need for a win-win solution. This research investigated the potential for ecotourism in the Yercaud Taluk, India, by identifying human and physical resources - including the natural and cultural features - available for development. It also identified socio-environmental problems to highlight the necessity for a win-win poverty alleviation and conservation strategy. Yercaud is a popular domestic tourist destination receiving large numbers of visitors, further emphasising the need for sustainable tourism and the vital requirement for successful implementation of ecotourism.

The fungal strains from soil sample was isolated on potato dextrose agar and identified based on standard mycological references. The data were presented in terms of ‘Periodicity of occurrence’ and ‘Percentage frequency’ and the same terminology has been used. Keywords: Biodiversity, Fungi, physico-chemical and microbiological parameters, Percentage frequency . Introduction Fungi are heterotrophs and subsist mainly on live or (Hyde, 1992; Bhat and Kendrick, 1993; Castafieda and dead, plant or animal-derived organic matter. Hence, proper assessment of groundwater potential and management practices are the needs of the day. Establishing relationship between remote sensing data and hydrologic phenomenon can maximize the efficiency of water resources development projects. Present study focuses on groundwater potential assessment in Salem district, Tamil Nadu to investigate groundwater resource potential. At the same, all thematic layers important from ground water occurrence and movement point of view were digitized and integrated in the GIS environment. The weights of different parameters/themes were computed using weighed index overlay analysis (WIOA), analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and fuzzy logic technique. Through this integrated GIS analysis, groundwater prospect map of the study area was prepared qualitatively. Field verification at observation wells was used to verify identified potential zones and depth of water measured at observation wells. Generated map from weighed overlay using AHP performed very well in predicting the groundwater surface and hence this methodology proves to be a promising tool for future. 1.
