La crisi dell’educazione occidentale. 1965, p.132-133) RESUMO Carvalho e Silva, V.M. O DEBATE SOBRE HOMESCHOOLING NO BRASIL: Organizações da sociedade civil e tentativas de regulamentação. Monografia (Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso de Pedagogia) - Faculdade de Educação, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, 2017. O presente estudo tem como objetivo analisar o debate sobre Ensino em Casa no Brasil, buscando conhecer quem são os legisladores, quais os argumentos a favor e contra apresentados nas tentativas de legalização da prática no Poder Legislativo, bem como em processos jurídicos que as famílias vêm enfrentando. O trabalho apresenta uma descrição histórica do (re)surgimento do Ensino em Casa nos Estados Unidos e aponta o crescimento da prática no Brasil. A fim de explicar o debate, descreve a produção acadêmica brasileira sobre o tema, e a ANED (organização na sociedade civil) e seus argumentos. Através de uma linha de tempo que se inicia na década de 1990, apresenta o histórico dos projetos de lei e de decisões judiciais, buscando identificar os enfrentamentos e defesas para a regularização da prática no Brasil. A pesquisa nos leva a concluir que o Ensino em Casa é um fenômeno crescente no país, que busca maior segurança na legislação a fim de se constituir como opção educacional às famílias que por ele se interessem, como opção educacional para suprir o direito à educação de suas crianças e adolescentes. THE HOMESCHOOLING DEBATE IN BRAZIL: Civil Organizations and Legal Regularization Attempts. (Final Paper) - Faculdade de Educação, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, 2017 The main objective of this study is to analyze the ongoing debate about homeschooling in Brazil, aiming to approach who the legislators are, what the arguments are, both in favor of and against homeschooling, in the various attempts to legalize this practice in Brazilian Congress and in the judicial cases families have been facing. This work presents a historical description of the re(birth) of schooling at home in the United States, and describes the growth of this form of education in Brazil. In order to explain the ongoing debate, it describes the Brazilian Academic Production about homeschooling, as well as an organization in society (ANED) and their arguments. The study uses a timeline starting in the 1990’s, in order to present the history of the proposed laws and judicial sentences seeking to identify confrontations and defenses throughout the regularization process of Homeschooling in Brazil. Research shows us that Homeschooling is a growing phenomenon in the country, seeking greater legal security in order to be established to the families interested in the method as an educational option to supply the right of education of their children. The topic which is under consideration is closely connected with the history of family education (homeschooling), on the one hand, and with the development of professional education in the country, on the other. It was stated that the process of the professional training of specialists for family education has undergone various changes with the appearance of social structures and phenomena like public organizations, social movements, volunteering, public educational courses; new technologies and the Internet. The purpose of the article is to highlight historical aspects of professional training in providing a family (home) form of secondary education in Canada. The urgency of the research is based on growing popularity of homeschooling among Canadian families. Besides that, nowadays homeschooling experts share its experience with schools working in terms of distance learning. Two hundred and thirty two self-identified unschooling families, with at least one child over five years old, completed and returned the questionnaire. Qualitative analyses revealed considerable variability in the routes to unschooling and in the ways in which the parents saw themselves as involved in their children’s education. The biggest challenge expressed was that of overcoming feelings of criticism, or social pressure, that came from others who disapproved and from their own culturally-ingrained, habitual ways of thinking about education. The reported benefits of unschooling were numerous; they included improved learning, better attitudes about learning, and improved psychological and social wellbeing for the children; and increased closeness, harmony, and freedom for the whole family.

Following the methodology of narrative inquiry, this study analyzes the experiences of the author’s family and seven other families as they dealt with school. This study identifies many strategies parents may employ as they navigate their child’s schooling. This continuum of strategies starts with minor actions such as maintaining close communications with teachers to the radical move of quitting school altogether for unschooling. Although Negotiating School never intended to make any claim of generalizability, the strategies that emerged from the participant’s stories seem to cover the territory of possible school negotiations available to parents. Initially, this thesis had in mind parents who sought a humanistic, child-centred education which would reflect their own intensive parenting style. However, as they told their stories, it became clear that some of my participants privileged traditional concerns, such as the quality of teaching, the coherence of the curriculum, and the conduct of the other students in the building. Regardless, the techniques of negotiating school served both ends of the educational spectrum, the progressive and the traditional.

The texts used in this review were culled from virtually the entire universe of English- language academic texts on the topic—more than 2,000 in total. Scholarship was evaluated using three primary criteria: quality of scholarship, significance or influence, and distinctiveness of insight. This review sought to answer the following questions: What primary topics or themes are addressed in the literature? How effective are the methodology and analysis performed? What does the research reveal about homeschooling, and what questions remain unanswered? But beginning in the late 1970s and increasing steadily since then, the home has become a popular educational locus for an ever expanding number of families across an ever widening swath of the U.S. population, and it has grown in profile in several other countries as well.     Investigating Secondary Home Education Student Academic Preparation for Postsecondary Education: A Multiple-Case Study by Timothy George Eaton A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Education Department of Secondary Education University of Alberta © Timothy George Eaton, 2018 ii Abstract This multiple-case study considered the experiences and perspectives offered by four postsecondary students who were home-educated during their secondary years of education in Alberta, Canada. I aimed to discover what secondary home education students do to help them prepare for postsecondary studies. I conducted two semi-structured interviews with each participant or case, analyzed transcription data for each individual case, and cross-analyzed the four cases before interpreting the findings. Important key findings from the four cases in this study include the following: 1. Home education appears to foster effective self-directed, independent learning, which could aid home education students with managing their time and studies as they transition to the postsecondary education setting. 2. The home education environment appears to lead students to desire to learn alone and to discourage collaborative learning. 3. Students who experience secondary home education without emphasizing grades and testing are not necessarily disadvantaged as they enter postsecondary education. 4. Home education students could be limited in what they know about how their academic progress compares with their peers, and they could experience less anxiety about their learning progress if they increase their exposure to students in other learning settings. 5. Home education students could benefit from improving communication with their parents about postsecondary academic preparation and planning for postsecondary life more deliberately, specifically by conducting more research on postsecondary institutions, learning more about admittance requirements and courses, and visiting iii campuses and classes.

    Journal(of(Unschooling(and(Alternative(Learning(2013(Vol.(7(Issue(14.( ( The Challenges and Benefits of Unschooling, According 1 to 232 Families Who Have Chosen that Route By: Peter GRAY & Gina RILEY Abstract Unschooling families (families that don’t send their children to school and don’t school them at home) were invited to participate in a survey about their unschooling practices. Two hundred and thirty two self-identified unschooling families, with at least one child over five years old, completed and returned the questionnaire. Qualitative analyses revealed considerable variability in the routes to unschooling and in the ways in which the parents saw themselves as involved in their children’s education. The biggest challenge expressed was that of overcoming feelings of criticism, or social pressure, that came from others who disapproved and from their own culturally-ingrained, habitual ways of thinking about education. The reported benefits of unschooling were numerous; they included improved learning, better attitudes about learning, and improved psychological and social wellbeing for the children; and increased closeness, harmony, and freedom for the whole family.
