Diskusi dalam makalah ini berfokus tentang nilai-nilai moral pada lagu Charlie Puth di album Nine Track Mind. Nilai-nilai moral adalah nilai-nilai yang digunakan oleh masyarakat dalam bentuk norma atau aturan. Perilaku baik atau buruk disebut sebagai nilai-nilai moral. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan nilai-nilai moral dan pentingnya nilai-nilai moral dalam kehidupan yang digambarkan dalam lirik lagu yang dipilih Charlie Puth. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode Analisis Deskriptif. Sumber data adalah enam lirik dari album Charlie Puth. Teknik yang digunakan untuk mengdeskripsikan data ini yaitu dengan melakukan beberapa langkah, antara lain dengan membaca enam lirik dari album Charlie Puth, memahami isi lirik lagu Charlie Puth, dan mendeskripsikan jenis nilai moral dalam lirik lagu yang dipilih Charlie Puth. Setelah mendeskripsikan nilai-nilai moral, dapat disimpulkan bahwa lirik lagu yang dipilih Charlie Puth adalah lagu yang menarik.Lagu ini menyangkut pengalaman pribadi kehidupan manusia yang dicerminkan melalui cinta, kesetiaan, yang mengacu pada kepercayaan, ketulusan, dan menghormati orang lain. Selain itu, penggambaran nilai-nilai moral yang ditemukan dalam lirik lagu biasanya dekat dari kehidupan penyanyi, dapat menggambarkan perilaku masyarakat, yang baik atau buruk. Kata Kunci: Nilai Moral, Lirik lagu, Album Nine Track Mind. iii UNIVERSITAS SUMATERA UTARA ABSTRACT This study is entitled “A Description of Moral Values in Charlie Puth’s Selected Song Lyrics”. The discussion on this paper focuses about the moral values on Charlie Puth’s song in Nine Track Mind album. The moral values is the values used by society in the form of norms or rules. Good or bad behavior referred to as moral values. The study is aimed to describes the moral values and the significance of moral values in life portrayed in Charlie Puth’s selected song lyrics. The research method used in this study is Descriptive Analysis method. The source of data are six lyrics from Charlie Puth’s album. The data of this study were description by reading six lyrics from album Charlie Puth’s, understanding the contents of Charlie Puth’s song lyrics, and description kinds of moral values in Charlie Puth’s selected song lyrics. After description the moral values, it can be concluded that Charlie Puth’s selected song lyrics is an interesting song. It concern with some parts of human’s life true experience that is about love, loyalty, which reflected to believe, sincerity, and respecting others. In addition, the depiction of moral values found in the song lyrics are usually close from the singer’s life, it can describes the society’s behavior, which is good or bad. INTRODUCTION 1.1 Background of the study Literary work is the result of human mind. Creation in addition to providing entertainment but literary work also give the values such as, moral value, religion, educational, and sociological value. Peoples can know the moral value, the composition of customs, religion, and other people‟s view of life or society through literary works. Literary works with human have an inseparable relationship. Literature is a reflection of human life. The kind of literary works are poem, song, lyrics, novel, movie, drama and etc. Music is part of literary work. Music is a tone or sound that it can contain beautiful rhythms, songs, and harmony especially for the sound produced or created from the tools that can indeed produce a rhythm. Music is avery important component in human life. Music may represent the bad or good of human felling, it is able to express their thoughts, experiences, emotions, and faith. Besides that , music can also create memories when they are listening to each song. Music has amazing benefits such as, music makes you happier, music enhances running performance, music lowers stress and improves health, music helps you sleeps better, music raises IQ and academic performance, music helps you sleep better, and etc. In music there is also a moral value without us knowing it, for example as in the Charlie puth songs. 1 UNIVERSITAS SUMATERA UTARA The word moral comes from latin “mores” that has a habit. Then translated or translated into “moral code” or a term used to define a boundary of another role, will, opinion or limitation of deeds that can reasonably be said to be true, wrong, good or bad. Moral in general leads to the notion of teach about the good or bad received about the deeds, attitudes, duties, manners, and so forth. Teenagers are said to be moral if they have moral awareness of being able to judge good and bad things, things that can be done and should not be done and things that are ethical and unethical. A moral teenager will naturally appear in his moral judgment and reasoning as well as in his good, righteous, ethical behavior. People have to improve and maintain their good moral. Morality is a common word to say, but it is very difficult to imply in human‟s daily life. Since people were born, they have been taught about morality, however as the time goes by, the morality is decreasing.
