FEW FIGURES FROM THE AMERICAN PAST are SYMPOSIUM PARTICIPANTS better known than the young woman who has Chief Emeritus Kenneth Adams come down to us as “Pocahontas.” Her fame began in her Upper Mattaponi Tribe own lifetime and has endured for more than 400 years. Chief Stephen Adkins Pocahontas: Her Life, Legend, and Legacy is a half-day Chickahominy Tribe symposium at the Virginia Museum of History & Culture Rt. Rev. Carol Gallagher intended to tell the story of Pocahontas from the English Assistant Bishop for Native Ministries, and Native American perspectives. Distinguished national Episcopal Diocese of Montana and international speakers will lead discussions on what Chief Robert Gray Pocahontas has come to represent as a cross cultural Tribe ambassador, the role of religion and faith in her story, John Pagano and the myths and realities that surround her.
