We aim to break even on postage and will use the best method to minimise costs. One good innovation is the introduction of the “POST PLUS” satchels, which replace the old red satchels and include a tracking number. Available in 3 sizes they are 500 grams ($7.50) 3kgs ($11.50) 5kgs ($14.50) P & P. The latter 2 are perfect for larger interstate packages as anything over 500 grams even is going to cost more than $11.50. We can take a cd out of a case to reduce costs. Basically 1 cd still $2. 2cds $3 and rest as they will fit. Again Australia Post have this ludicrous notion that if a package can fit through a certain slot on a card it goes as a letter whereas if it doesn’t it is classified as a “parcel” and can cost up to 5 times as much. One day I will send a letter to the Minister for Trade as their policies are distinctly prejudicial to commerce. Out here they make massive profits but offer a very poor number of services and charge top dollar for what they do provide. Still, the mail mostly always gets there. But until ssuch times as their local monopoly remains, things won’t be much different. ----------------------------------------------- For those long term customers and anyone receiving these newsletters for the first time we have several walk in sales per year, with the next being Saturday August 25th.

    Finding Love in Hopeless Places: Complex Relationality and Impossible Heterosexuality in Popular Music Videos by Pink and Rihanna Marc Lafrance and Lori Burns KEYWORDS: Pink, Rihanna, music video, popular music, cross-domain analysis, relationality, heterosexuality, liquid love ABSTRACT: This paper presents an interpretive approach to music video analysis that engages with critical scholarship in the areas of popular music studies, gender studies and cultural studies. Two key examples—Pink’s pop video “Try” and Rihanna’s electropop video “We Found Love”—allow us to examine representations of complex human relationality and the paradoxical challenges of heterosexuality in late modernity. We explore Zygmunt Bauman’s notion of “liquid love” in connection with the selected videos. A model for the analysis of lyrics, music, and images according to cross-domain parameters ( thematic, spatial & temporal, relational, and gestural ) facilitates the interpretation of the expressive content we consider. Our model has the potential to be applied to musical texts from the full range of musical genres and to shed light on a variety of social and cultural contexts at both the micro and macro levels. To illustrate the relevance of our approach, we have selected two songs by mainstream female artists who offer compelling reflections on the nature of heterosexual love and the challenges it poses for both men and women.

    Plenary: Songwriter Session – Don’t Just Tap Your Foot, Tap Your Creativity Presented By: Gary Burr Musician, Songwriter, Producer Nashville, TN Don Henry Singer, Songwriter Nashville, TN Jim Phtoglo Singer, Songwriter Nashville, TN Victoria Shaw Singer, Songwriter Nashville, TN Presented at: ACLEA 53rd Mid-Year Meeting January 28th – January 31st, 2017 Nashville, Tennessee Gary Burr Musician, Songwriter, Producer Nashville, TN “…But the guitarist always writes the songs…” That’s what they said in Gary’s first band. So, following in the footsteps of his heroes John Lennon and Roger McGuinn, a writer was born. After years of hard work and hard writing, he got his first break in 1982 with Juice Newton’s “Love’s Been a Little Bit Hard on Me.” With a hit under his belt he started writing in earnest, getting cuts from such talents as the Oak Ridge Boys and Conway Twitty. After a brief time on a solo career and album, Gary took over for Vince Gill as the lead‐singer for the band Pure Prairie League. In the late 80’s, feeling that he’d done all he can from Connecticut, Gary decided to move to Nashville, and a better move is hard to make. It didn’t take long for Gary to become one of Country Music’s most sought‐after writers, having hits with Randy Travis, Reba McEntire, Patty Loveless, Garth Brooks, and many more. Burr has been awarded ‘Songwriter of the Year’ on three separate occasions by three different organizations: Billboard, Nashville Songwriter’s Association International, and ASCAP and has written 14 Number One songs.

    Volume 51 GENE WATSON FAN CLUB April, May, June 2017 NEWSLETTER Dear Friends, I know being busy is good but I feel like I’ve been busier than a long-tailed cat in a room full of rock- ing chairs. I just finished up my part of recording the new Gospel CD and now the rest of the work for the CD cover, etc has to be done. I really enjoyed recording these special songs because it brought back memories of singing in church with my fami- ly. My Mom and Dad led the singing at our church and often my brother, Eddie, and me would sing a duet. I also sang a lot with my sister, Virginia (Gina) and my sister, Mary Lois. I hope you’ll love these songs as much as I do and I can’t wait for you to hear it. I’ll let you know just as soon as we know a release date. We’d love to see you at one of our shows so have a look in this newsletter at all the tour dates and maybe you can come see us soon. You can always find out more about a show on our website also.
