Q: Are these buses for students only? A: No, anyone can use them. Moreover, students and university staff may get a special discount when buying weekly, monthly or annual passes. 4. Q: What do I need in order to be able to use the Uni-link bus routes? A: You need to buy a paper ticket on board or to own a bus pass (called the key) that you can order and top up online, or purchase at the Uni-link Office (located on the Highfield Campus, above the Students Union Shop). If you live in a University hall of Residence, you should have received a free annual Uni-link bus pass (the key) as part of your Welcome pack. You will be given your Welcome pack when you check- in at your halls. Two Oxford Bus Company Engineers Retire After 97 Years Service
Oxford Bus Company Managing Director Phil Southall sending off Dave Cook and Ray Leach Jan 11, 2021 09:42 GMT TWO OXFORD BUS COMPANY ENGINEERS RETIRE AFTER 97 YEARS SERVICE Mechanics Dave Cook and Ray Leach have downed tools after almost a combined century servicing buses at Oxford Bus Company. They have both retired after spending nearly 50 years each keeping buses in top condition. In careers spanning six decades, Mr Cook and Mr Leach experienced significant developments in the transport industry. Mr Cook joined Oxford Bus Company in August 1971, when Edward Heath was prime minister and How Can You Mend A Broken Heart by Bees Gees was Number One in the charts. He completed 49 years’ services in total. Mr Leach joined the company a year later in August 1972, when School’s Out by Alice Cooper was Number One in the charts, the average bus fare was 3p and a pint of beer 15p. Mr Leach completed 48 years’ service in total. The pair were at the forefront of ever-developing transport technology during their careers, which has included a recent transition from diesel vehicles to hybrid. Phil Southall, Oxford Bus Company Managing Director said: “Dave and Ray have been part of the Oxford Bus Company team for many years and will be sorely missed by colleagues. We wish them both a happy and long retirement with their families. “They have both experienced so much development in the bus industry and always kept abreast of engineering advancements. We are fortunate to have many loyal and hard-working colleagues and who are a credit to the company.” The Oxford Bus Company has kept the people of Oxford moving since 1881. -

Invitation to tender Plan your day at the Visitor Information Centre, New Forest Centre Introduction The Department of Transport has awarded funding to Hampshire County Council, New Forest NPA, South Downs NPA, together with the highway authorities of Brighton & Hove, East Sussex, West Sussex, Surrey and Wiltshire to develop initiatives to reduce the impact of traffic on the two National Parks. The funding has been awarded through the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) and will allow the Authorities to focus on: Improving key public transport services in to the two National Parks Making it easy to reach visitor attractions within the two National Parks Promoting travel by cycle, bus and rail to and around the National Parks Managing traffic effectively within the Parks, so that it does not detract from the visitors’ experience As part of this funding, we seek to install a ‘plan your day’ interactive area within the New Forest Centre, Lyndhurst. Part of the Centre acts as the Visitor Information Centre for the New Forest destination, and is the only remaining one staffed by New Forest District Council in their destination management capacity. The Centre received 230,000 visitors in 2014, and there is considerable scope to convey sustainable transport messages within the information and itinerary ideas offered. The plan your day area will complement print and face to face information by offering access to digital based content on sustainable ways of enjoying the New Forest. The law covering the design and operation of bus services breaks buses down in to different types of vehicle: Minibus 9 to 16 passengers The law covering vehicle accessibility does not include the design of vehicles under 22 passenger seats. It is unusual to see a minibus on a local bus services. The above minibus was operating on a local bus route in Skye and it is a low floor minibus with a ramp to allow a wheelchair to access the wheelchair space.
