The following collection of genealogical data has been made for gratuitous distribution among the kindred who represent the different families and for the preservation and perpetuation of an ancestry that is worthy of our respect, love" and admiration.

Many mistakes and imperfections will be found in Its pages. It is far short of the expectations and wishes of the undersigned, inasmuch as it has been impossible to trace our family line back to the date of their landing upon American shores, fly inability to find the Fewell ancestor who married E^lsa Colvin has been especially disappointing. This ancestor was a resident of Culpeper County, Va., about 1780, but the most careful and painstaking research has failed to disclose the name.

This great disappointment and others it is hoped will not destroy the value of the work, and in the future some descendant of our ancestors may be incited to take up the work and bring it to a more successful conclusion. This data is being closed in its imperfect state on account of the age and ill health of its author and the fear that none others were interested, and a crude collection would be preferable to none.

Every member of our family lines should be very grateful to Mrs. Malinda A. Robinson and Mrs. Lena Rook Reynolds for the untiring zeal that each has manifested in the collection of family history to be record- edand published for our information. The former, of Nevada, Missouri, interesting herself in the Fewells, Walls, Lindsays and the lines they represent. The latter of Franklin, Term., in the Reynolds and the lines they represent. No one can fully appreciate their efforts, except those engag ed in a similar work.

Family tradition places our earliest Reynolds in Pennsylvania) the Walls upon the eastern shore of Maryland; the Lindsays and probably the Vernons also in Maryland. The earliest record of the Fewells is that of Henry Fewell, making a deed in 1720 to John Skinner, in Richmond, County, Virginia, and In 1721 we find Hairy Fewell making a deed to property in 5ing George County, Virginia, and a Benjamin Fewell recorde^d In the same county. There were also two James Fewells In Spottsylvania County, Va., one record about 1750, the other being James, the son of John Fewell, in 1786. The Boughans, as it is spelled on the Confederate Monument, were from Essex County, Va.

Before coming to this country, the Reynolds were from England} the Walls from the same; the Lindsays probab3-y from Scotland; the Boughans nefc-kaeum and the Fewells from Wales.

With these few lines of explanation as a foreword this work is submitted without further excuse or apology.

Eugene Millner, bom 1867; died 1 or about that time, our ancestor moved to Williamson county, Tenn., and wo find a Richard and a Spencer Reynolds also residents-of the same county, indicating that the influence of relationship influenced them to make their homes In the same localities.

In the ninth annual report of the Virginia State Library, we find the following record: "George Reynolds, 1st Lieutenant, commissioned August 1780, by court, under P. Hairston, from Henry, Va., Caroline county." We feel justified in believing this is our ancestor, the Caroline county being the only confusing factor that raises any doubt. George Reynolds, of our line, was a resident of Henry county, Va., at the time, and P. Hairston was also living in Henry, or just across the line In Pittsylvania county, and, so far as possible to ascertain, there is no Henry In Caroline county, Va. The record at Bowling Green, the county seat of Caroline were destroyed, making it impossible to verify the fact.

George Reynolds, the head of our line, married Susanna Lansford, daughter of Henry and Catherine Lansford, of Pittsylvania, June 12. 1779. Henry Lansford must have died in 1777, as his will was probated Jan. 22, 1778, and his widow, Catherine, signed the permit for her daughter, Susanna to marry our ancestor. About 1809, George Reynolds moved to Williamson county, Tenn. Two of his daughters, Elizabeth and Susanna, having married, the first to Richard Hughes, Nov. 2U, 1796, the second to James Hughes, Jan. 25* 1803, and I take it that these families and the pryors, Stones, Perkins, and others, went at the same time. Our ancestor died in Williamson county, Tenn., about 1813.

Thomas Reynolds, son of George and Susanna Reynolds, was a soldier 15 in the War of 1812, and served under General Jackson in the Creek Indian war, I8l3-lii; was severely wounded in Alabama in the latter war and was carried home by two of his brothers in a surry wagon, surviving a wound from a bullet that first passed through his watch, carrying the glass and works into his body, from xjhere they were extracted by passing a silk handkerchief through the wound, the bullet going through the body, the glass and works of the watch would adhere to the handkerchief and were removed.

Pryor Reynolds, son of George and Susanna Reynolds, moved to Tennessee in 1809, living in Williamson county until 1819. He then moved to Lawrence county, Alabama, where he resided until 1827, when he moved to Rockingham county, North Carolina, in the neighborhood of where he was reared. Two children, Elizabeth and Martha, died in child hood. Pryor Reynolds passed the remainder of his days at Ids home near the town of Draper, where he died Oct. 5, 1858. He was buried in the family graveyard, where also rests the remains of his wife. Pryor Reyn olds was probably named after some menber of the Pryor family.

John Reynolds, son of Pryor, lived and died in the town of Leaks- ville, N. C, being a large and successful merchant.

George Reynolds, son of Pryor, died on his return from a visit to his first wife's kin in Forsyth county, at the home of his brother, James T. Reynolds, near Madison, N. C.

James T. Reynolds lived on his f.»rm on the South of Ban River, two miles from Madison, being the licme of William Fewell before lie moved West. James T, Reynolds was a farmer, and served a tenn in the General Assembly of North Carolina just before the Civil War. He died in 190U, and was buried in the family graveyard, where also rests the remains of his first wife's mother, Elizabeth Bearing (Wall) Fewell.

Dr. Thomas Reynolds began the practice of his profession in Madison but afterwards moved to Leakesville. After being forced to abandon his practice on account of ill health, he went into the mercantile business. He died at Leakesville in 1872, was buried in the Episcopal cemetery beside the remains of his wife, who preceded him a little over a year.

Pryor Reynolds, son of Pryor, lived and died in Leakesville, was pri vate Secretary to Governor Morehead; served in the General Assembly 0f North. Carolina; was assisstant quartermaster in Civil War, and a success ful merchant up to a few years of his death; buried in the Lawson grave yard at Leakesville, N. C.

Samuel M. Reynolds was reared in or near Leakesville, N. C,, where he married and lived until the birth of his first son. He moved to Henry county, Mo., where he successfully farmed until his death. Killed at Lone Jack, Mo., while serving in the {confederate Army.

Charles A. Reynolds, son of Dr. Reynolds, graduate of Princeton University, New Jersey; Lieutenant Governor 1897-1901, and presiding officer of North Carolina senate; prominent in the political councils of the Republican party, contributing many articles under the name of "Justice" to the political organs of the party; recently State Chairman, 16

and at present Republican Committeeman from North Carolina to the National Republican Committee. Bom in Madison, reared in Leakesville, and since 1682 resident of Winston-Salem.

• Sarah (Odineal) Fewell, daughter of John Odineal, and sister of Ebenezer P. Milton, John Haywood, Matilda and Mary Jane Odineal. Ebenezer Odineal married Rosamond Bearing, daughter of William and Mary Bearing, from Orange county, Va., originally, but moved to Rock- ingham County, N. C, and located on Belews Creek on the south side of Dan River, where they are buried. Their children moved to Tuscaloosa, Ala., about 1830. William Bearing was evidently related to Anthony Desrlng, who married Elizabeth Vernon, daughter of Richard and Sarah Vernon, and from Elizabeth (Vernon) Dearing comes the family name of "Elizabeth Dearing" that runs through 30 many generations of both the Walls and Fewells. Anthony Dearing was in North Carolina at the early period of 1778 and purchased land in Stokes county on the upper Beaver Island Creek, but I can find no record of the disposal of the land, or of any descendant. It is very probable that he moved to dome other state.

C,, where he accumulated much property, dying in the year 1816, AH of the above descendants, with the ex ception of William Wall, who married Ann Eliza Fewell, lived and died in North Carolina around the homes and in the neighborhood of their an cestors, James M, Wall, son of Zachariah (III), is also a wanderer from his people, living in Twin Falls, Idaho.

In 3839, Richard Wall, son of Zaclariah 3st, with his family and many other relations and friends, noved out to Missouri in Henry and Johnson Counties. The data of whose families will appear in this list of family lines,

Richard Wall married Susan Vernon, daughter of Richard and Susan Vernon, in Cu3peper County, Va. Richard Vernon had several daughters 31*

and probably sons. Anthony Dearing married Elizabeth Vernon and was probably one of the first to come to North Carolina from Culpeper, as we find him as witness to a land deal in March, 17-78, and also the purchaser of a grant of land on both sides of Beaver Island Creek, November, 1781*. This being in the same locality of where the Walls and Fewells came in 1797. This Elizabeth Dearing will account for the many family names in both the Fewells and Walls line. So far I have been unable to find any trace of Anthony Dearing except the grant of land from Gov. Martin, 3rd day of November, 1781*.
