UCLA Catalog Record ID UCLA Catalog Record ID: 2976942 Biography Tom Smothers was born February 2, 1937 and Dick Smothers was born November 20, 1938, Governors Island, New York. They both attended San Jose State College. Together the brothers began a music and comedy act, leading to appearances at San Francisco's Purple Onion, the Blue Angel in New York, and to nightclub stints in Reno, Lake Tahoe, and Las Vegas. Their television variety programs included The Smothers Brothers Show (CBS, 1965-1966), The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour (CBS, 1967-1969), The Summer Brothers Smothers Show (CBS, 1968), The Smothers Brothers Summer Show (ABC, 1970), and The Smothers Brothers Show (NBC, 1975). In addition, they have appeared in television specials and have issued numerous record albums. Scope and Content This collection primarily consists of manuscript and reproduction scores of arrangements for the Smothers Brothers' television programs. The bulk is for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour (1967-1969); also included are scores for The Summer Brothers Smothers Show (1968) and The Smothers Brothers Show (1975). In addition, the collection contains a small amount of arrangements for record albums. There is no material for the first The Smothers Brothers Show (1965-1966) or The Smothers Brothers Summer Show (1970).
