Catalogue of Photographs of Performers and Shows in the Archives of the Embassy Theatre Foundation The archives of the Embassy Theatre Foundation hold more than 3000 artifacts, including more than 600 photographs of vaudevillians inscribed to Bud Berger (long-time stage man- ager at the Embassy Theatre, known as the Emboyd until 1952); more than 300 posters, playbills, programs, stools, and even guitars signed by the stars and casts of shows that have played at the Embassy Theatre over the past forty years, rang- ing from classic and current Broadway shows to acrobatic groups, choral ensembles, dance shows, ballet, stand-up comedians, rock bands, country singers, travel films, silent films, theatre organists, and so on; and hundreds of publicity photographs of performers, shows, and events at the theatre, primarily from the period following the establishment of the Embassy Theatre Foundation and its rescue of the theatre from the wrecking ball in 1975; and a nearly complete run of the journal of the American Theatre Organ Society. The archive is now almost fully catalogued and preserved in archival housing. Earlier excerpts from the catalogue (available on the Archives page of the Embassy Theatre’s web site) cover the photographs inscribed to Bud Berger and the posters, playbills, programs, stools, and so on from later shows at the Embassy. This is the third excerpt, covering the public- ity photographs of the last forty-five years and a few photographs of earlier events, Bud Berger, and other members of the stage crew. The publicity photographs are primarily of individ- ual performers, but a few shows are presented as well, including Ain’t Misbehavin’, Annie, Barnum, Bubbling Brown Sugar, Cabaret, California Suite, Cats, A Christ- mas Carol, Dancin’, Evita, Gypsy, I'm Getting My Act Together And Taking It On The Road, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Peter Pan, Same Time Next Year, Side by Side by Sondheim, and Ziegfeld: A Night at the Follies. -

Buster Williams Biography Buster Williams is a prodigious artist whose playing knows no limits. He has played, recorded and collaborated with jazz giants such as Art Blakey, Betty Carter, Carmen McRae, Chet Baker, Chick Corea, Dexter Gordon, Jimmy Heath, Branford Marsalis, Wynton Marsalis, Gene Ammons, Sonny Stitt, Herbie Hancock, Larry Coryell, Lee Konitz, McCoy Tyner, Illinois Jacquet, Nancy Wilson, Elvin Jones, Miles Davis, the Jazz Crusaders, Ron Carter, Woody Shaw, Sarah Vaughan, Benny Golson, Mary Lou Williams, Hank Jones, Lee Morgan, Jimmy Rowles, Hampton Hawes, Cedar Walton, Bobby Hutcherson, Billy Taylor, Sonny Rollins, Count Basie, Errol Garner, Kenny Barron, Charlie Rouse, Dakota Staton, Kenny Dorham, and Freddie Hubbard, to name a few. Remembered today as popular American comedians and musicians, The Smothers Brothers were among the first to perform improvised material onstage as part of their musical comedy performances. At this special event, Florida Studio Theatre will recognize the group’s artistic contributions to improv at its milestone Improv Festival. FST’s Managing Director Rebecca Hopkins will lead an in-depth interview with the one and only Dick Smothers, followed by a fully improvised hip-hop homage to the Brothers’ groundbreaking work performed by North Coast, New York City’s premier hip-hop comedy team. After 44 years in the comedy business, The Washington Post declares that a Smothers Brothers show is “Fresh and perfectly timed…hilarious as ever!” Tom and Dick Smothers are comedians long considered ahead of their time and their Smothers Brothers act has enjoyed a lengthy career that has surpassed all other comedy teams in history. With consummate showmanship and their singular blend of comedic and musical talents, the irrepressible Brothers have made a sweeping impact on diverse generations of fans of all ages. The Smothers Brothers’ first professional appearance was at the Purple Onion in San Francisco in 1959; their first national television appearance was on “The Jack Paar Show” in 1961. Decades of audiences have seen the Smothers Brothers in their own primetime comedy series in the 1960’s, 1970’s and again in the 1980’s. The Brothers made guest appearances on numerous television programs, headlined countless engagements in Las Vegas, Reno and Lake Tahoe, starred in a popular video, cut twelve top-selling albums, and have performed continuous nationwide concert tours. The contributions Tom and Dick Smothers have made to the entertainment world throughout their careers were so highly respected that the Museum of Television and Radio in New York produced a retrospective and seminar on their work. -
