It contains summary Statistics on Economic, Social and Political development in Edo State from 2003-2012 There are eleven chapters with each containing Information relating to a particular subject. Data are presented both by Local Government Area and at State level. The tables are numbered according to their chapters. For example a table numbered 3.1 or 4.2 means first or second table in chapter 3 or 4 respectively. The source of data is indicated at the foot of the table for easy reference and to enable users consult the source of any data for additional information if they so desire. Each chapter is preceded by introductory note to give users fore knowledge of the information contained in it. It is our hope that this publication will be found useful for purpose of planning by individuals and Corporate Organizations. CHAPTER 1 WEATHER AND CLIMATE Edo State is one of the thirty six States of Nigeria with the population of 3,233,366 and total land area is 19,794sq. Km The state lies approximately between latitudes 5°44'N and 7’37’’N and between longitudes 5°44 and 6'43’'E. Edo State is in a low-lying area except to the north where it is marked by undulating hills rising to a peak of about 672 meters above sea level. The State experiences a tropical climate, characterized by two seasons, namely dry and rainy seasons. The dry season usually commences from early November to late March while the rainy season start from late March to early November. The dry season is usually longer in the Northern part of the State then in the Southern part which experiences rainfall almost all year round.
