PO 2007 - Didier Pers Trophy Saturday-Sunday 16-17 June 2007 – Benjamins Tournament Number 26 – AUGUST 2007 BRAVO AND THANK YOU

The 2006-2007 season is don. Now is the moment for taking stock, transfers, vacation…The occassion to review the event that highlighted the end of our In this issue : year : the 2007 Didier Pers Trophy. What memories ! Results summary 2007, The big novelty, to divide the matches over 2 days, was a success. This allowed our expert’s analysis, longer matches, which in turn lead to more goals and results that better interview with the reflected the level of the teams. The players had more time between matches, winners, the complete allowing them to better digest the predeeding result and prepare psychologically prize list… for the next match. Once again, there was an excellent ambiance. After the magiical drawing at the Sorbonne, the buffet organized Friday evening gave the teams the chance to have a first friendly meeting. We thank again all the teams who contributed to this buffet, especially the Corse trainer and his association « Terra Bio Corsica », who was at the origin of this idea. The operation « Everyone in orange », that supports Sport Without Borders, was also a great success, with 420 pairs of laces sold, for a sum of 1230 euros. Finally, for the sporting aspect, turn the page for the interview, analysis and results of the 2007 edition… while waitng for the 2008 tournament !

The triumph of the CS Bretigny players, raising the Didier Pers trophy

The sporting summary Our expert Pierre-Emmanuel de Seze analyzes the lessons to be had from this edition : First of all, it must be said that this year again, the Paris region (« Ile de ») ran off with everything : among these teams were the first five places ! This may be explained by several elements : a tiring voyage the eve of the tournament for the other teams, lodging in sup-optimal conditions while the locals sleep at home…But more than anything, this reveals the extremely high level of the Ile de France teams. Yet, this analysis was nearly overturned by the performances of Plougonvelin and Amiens (photo, right). These two teams, who made a very strong impression on observers, lost to the future finalists on penalties in the quarter finals. They could have, in my opinion, reversed the Ile de France supremacy this year… I would also like to give a big hats off to the PO teams, who progress yearly. Our C team specifically : composed of first year benjamins, they accomplished a remarkable feat Sunday, giving in only in the final against Saint Leu. Bravo to out brave players (Below a photo of Walter Froger, a player in the PO C team). I note as well the progress of our good friends the Brazilians, who regaled us this year and honored their reputation (as well as the English of course, whose many supporters are always nice and motivated !). Finally, the change to 15 matches was a success : this allowed matches that were structured and rich in sudden revivals. In brief, this was a tournament of high level, and to me, well equilibrated. A real pleasure !

Close up

« A very fine perfomance »

Stéphane Colombel, trainer of the Benjamins of CS Brétigny

CS Brétigny, brilliant winner of the 2007 edition of the Dider Pers Trophy, is a Ile de France club whose youth teams are of a very high level. The responsible for the Benjamins, Stéphane Colombel, gives us his impressions on their victory in June :

L’ÉPIQUE : « How did you celebrate this victory ? » Stéphane Colombel: « The players were very happy and we celebrated with a barbeque with everyone. That finished a fine season. » L’ÉPIQUE : « Were you expecting to do so well ? » Stéphane Colombel: « We had confidence in our capabilities, but to take the tournament was still a nice surprise. We knew certain teams, namely, the big Ile de France clubs like CFFP and the PSG with whom we were in the same pool. During the season , they beat us, but this time we won : it was a great performance by the players ! » L’ÉPIQUE : « What is your training strategy ? Do some players go to training centers ? » Stéphane Colombel: « We have teams at the highest level in almost all the categories (14 and 16 years national, 18 years in the Honor Division). Our structure thus rivals certain professional clubs at the sporting level, and our players can stay a long time in our club while always progressing. We keep all our Benjamins for example, since we consider that they are too young to leave. » L’ÉPIQUE : «And now, vacation, a new season with next June… the Didier Pers trophy ? » Stéphane Colombel: « Lets start with our well-earned vacation ! A fine season is in store for next year. And we’ll keep the Didier Pers trophy in mind : the young generation will be ready to meet the challenge and defend our title ! »

Wink of the eye

A big thank you to all the referees, without whom nothing would have been possible. They assured their role perfectly of ensuring that the rules of the game were respected as well as the spirit of fair play. They even showed they could play ball, affronting a team of trainers Sunday noon, and all in good humor !
