This paper aims to seek Members’ views on the proposed amendments to the Road Improvement Works (“RIW”) following the presentation by the representatives of Hopewell Holdings Limited to Wan Chai District Council on 10 January 2017 regarding the latest development scheme of Hopewell Centre II and the associated RIW amendments. BACKGROUND 2. The original RIW was gazetted in April 2009 and authorized by the Chief Executive in Council in July 2010. The RIW comprises three parts; namely road widening at Kennedy Road, road widening at the junction of Queen’s Road East and Kennedy Road, and road widening at the junction of Spring Garden Lane and Queen’s Road East Note 1. Please refer to the Key Plan in 2009 Gazette at Appendix 1. 3. In order to preserve more trees, during the detailed design of the road work, Hopewell Holdings Limited proposed to amend the RIW at Kennedy Road and at the junction of Queen’s Road East and Kennedy Road. The proposed amendments to the RIW have been submitted to the relevant Government departments for comment and are considered acceptable in principle. On 11 August 2017, the planning application (No. A/H5/408) of the latest development scheme of Hopewell Centre II was approved with conditions by the Metro Planning Committee of the Town Planning Board including an approval condition on the design and implementation of the related RIW.

    For Circulation C&W DC Paper No. 109/2017 Central and Western District Council Progress of Admiralty Station Expansion Works under the Shatin to Central Link Project Introduction 1. This paper aims to update members of the Central and Western District Council on the progress of the expansion works of Admiralty Station under the Shatin to Central Link (“SCL”) project. Background 2. The 17-kilometre SCL is a territory-wide strategic railway project linked with a number of existing and future railways to form two strategic railway corridors, namely the “East West Corridor” and the “North South Corridor”. The “East West Corridor” will be formed by extending the Ma On Shan Line from Tai Wai Station to Hung Hom Station where it will connect with the West Rail Line. The “North South Corridor” will extend the existing East Rail Line from Hung Hom Station across the Victoria Harbour to Admiralty Station via Exhibition Station. The “East West Corridor” and “North South Corridor” are expected to commission in mid-2019 and the 2021 respectively. 3. Admiralty Station will become the railway transport hub on Hong Kong Island that serves as the interchange for Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line, South Island Line (“SIL”) and the SCL. As part of the facilities are integrated for both the SCL and the South Island Line (East) (SIL(E)) project, part of the major works including platforms and interchange concourse were carried out under the SIL(E) project to shorten the overall construction time and minimise disturbance to the environment, road traffic and community. As SIL has been in operation since December 2016, SCL has taken over the works site from SIL(E) in Admiralty to continue the remaining railway construction works.

    CULTURE AND HERITAGE COMMISSION Policy Recommendation Report Letter to the Chief Executive 31 March 2003 The Honourable TUNG Chee Hwa Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Dear Mr. Tung, I am greatly honoured to be appointed Chairman of the Culture and Heritage Commission in April 2000, and to work with the other members in advising the Government on the long-term policies and funding priorities in the development of culture in Hong Kong. Since the first plenary meeting in May 2000, the Commission has altogether held 23 plenary meetings, some 80 working group meetings, four retreats and four study visits. Two series of public consultations were also conducted in early 2001 and late 2002. I hereby submit to you the Policy Recommendation Report of the Culture and Heritage Commission. We have put forward about one hundred recommendations which cover overall policies as well as specific implementation strategies. The premise of the recommendations is Hong Kong's unique cultural identity as being rooted in the Chinese cultural tradition and at the same time embracing a diversity of other cultures. The spirit of this Report is best captured by the principles of the "people-oriented" and "community-driven" approaches. The "people-oriented" approach reflects our emphasis on the holistic development of people. Hence we accord priority to the nurturing of talents, in particular, education in culture and the arts for the youth. Should Hong Kong neglect creative thinking and cultural education, it will lose its competitive edge, let alone become an international cultural metropolis. Also, the experience of other international cultural metropolises serves as a caveat against government's dominant role in cultural development.

    General Information on Hiring of LCSD Swimming Pools by Schools A) Charges of LCSD Swimming Pools 1. Charges are tabulated in the attached Appendix I and Appendix II , and are subject to revision by the LCSD regularly. 2. Schools can enjoy a 50% concessionary rate of normal charges for the use of LCSD pools during school hours (in general, i.e. Monday to Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Saturdays 8:00 am to 1:00 pm except public holidays and school holidays as announced by Education Bureau). Please refer to respective charge table in Appendix I and Appendix II for details. 3. All payment should be made in advance. Approval letters and demand notes for hiring charges will be issued by the swimming pool booking office. The charges have to be settled within 14 days from the date of the confirmation letter issued by the swimming pool booking office. Responsible person/teacher/coach of the school is required to present the receipt(s), the confirmation letter and the proof of identity upon entering the pool complex on the date of use. 4. Schools are reminded that instruction fees must not be collected from students. Otherwise, commercial rates will be charged . No gratuity of any kind should be given to the staff of the swimming pools. B) Safety Precautions and Regulations for Using LCSD Swimming Pools 1.
