Intro 1996 National List of Vascular Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands The Fish and Wildlife Service has prepared a National List of Vascular Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands: 1996 National Summary (1996 National List). The 1996 National List is a draft revision of the National List of Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands: 1988 National Summary (Reed 1988) (1988 National List). The 1996 National List is provided to encourage additional public review and comments on the draft regional wetland indicator assignments. The 1996 National List reflects a significant amount of new information that has become available since 1988 on the wetland affinity of vascular plants. This new information has resulted from the extensive use of the 1988 National List in the field by individuals involved in wetland and other resource inventories, wetland identification and delineation, and wetland research. Interim Regional Interagency Review Panel (Regional Panel) changes in indicator status as well as additions and deletions to the 1988 National List were documented in Regional supplements. The National List was originally developed as an appendix to the Classification of Wetlands and Deepwater Habitats of the United States (Cowardin et al.1979) to aid in the consistent application of this classification system for wetlands in the field.. The 1996 National List also was developed to aid in determining the presence of hydrophytic vegetation in the Clean Water Act Section 404 wetland regulatory program and in the implementation of the swampbuster provisions of the Food Security Act. While not required by law or regulation, the Fish and Wildlife Service is making the 1996 National List available for review and comment. -

Ecological distribution Along streams, lakes, meadows, bogs, and marsh sites. Tolerant of full sun and shade (North Fork Native Plants) (Pettinger). Salt and drought intolerant (LCD). Climate and elevation range Found at mid-low elevations in Washington State, (WNPS) and at 1340 to 2715 m in southeastern Oregon, southern Idaho, and western Montana (Natureserve). It is found across many climatic conditions across North America ranging from Alaska to New Mexico to Mississippi to Nova Scotia but not in the humid subtropical climate of the Southeast (PLANTS). Local habitat and abundance Found through much of Washington State (PLANTS) Plant strategy type / successional Seral Glyceria grandis/mesic forb association found in CO, ID, stage MT, OR, WA which can have up to 90% cover by GLGR. (Natureserve). Can compete with Washington State invasive species at times (Sound Native Plants). Spreads by rhizomes (LCD) and seed (Genesis Nursery Inc). Adapted to fine textured soils and medium water usage (LCD). Plant characteristics Short lived clumping perennial grass (LCD, Pettinger) growing up to 5 ft tall (WNPS). Utilizes C3 carbon fixation (Ketzner). Leaves are 6 to 15 mm wide coming up from soft thick stems (Pojar). -

GILMAN Gilman & Briggs Environmental 1 Conti Circle, Suite 5, Barre, Vermont 05641 [email protected] ABSTRACT Twenty-two species of vascular plants are reported for the state of Vermont, additional to those reported in the recently published New Flora of Vermont. These are Agrimonia parviflora, Althaea officinalis , Aralia elata , Beckmannia syzigachne , Bidens polylepis , Botrychium spathulatum, Carex panicea , Carex rostrata, Eutrochium fistulosum , Ficaria verna, Hypopitys lanuginosa, Juncus conglomeratus, Juncus diffusissimus, Linum striatum, Lipandra polysperma , Matricaria chamomilla, Nabalus racemosus, Pachysandra terminalis, Parthenocissus tricuspidata , Ranunculus auricomus , Rosa arkansana , and Rudbeckia sullivantii. Also new are three varieties: Crataegus irrasa var. irrasa , Crataegus pruinosa var. parvula , and Viola sagittata var. sagittata . Three species that have been reported elsewhere in 2013–2015, Isoetes viridimontana, Naias canadensis , and Solidago brendiae , are also recapitulated. This report and the recently published New Flora of Vermont (Gilman 2015) together summarize knowledge of the vascular flora of Vermont as of this date. The New Flora of Vermont was recently published by The New York Botanical Garden Press (Gilman 2015). It is the first complete accounting of the vascular flora of Vermont since 1969 (Seymour 1969) and adds more than 200 taxa to the then-known flora of the state. However, the manuscript for the New Flora was finalized in spring 2013 and additional species are now known: those that have been observed more recently, that have been recently encountered (or re-discovered) in herbaria, or that were not included because they were under study at the time of finalization. -

Beckmannia Eruciformis (L.) Host in Slovakia – Distribution, Ecology and Coenotic Affinity Dedicated to the Memory of Ján Bogoly (1951 – 2011)

Host In SlovAKIA – dIstrIbutIon, ecoLogy And coenotIc AffInIty Dedicated to the memory of Ján Bogoly (1951 – 2011) Daniel DÍTĚ1, Pavol ELIÁŠ jun.2, Richard HRIVNÁK1 & Zuzana MELEČKOVÁ1 Abstract The historical and recent distribution, ecology and phytosociology of perennial grass Beckmannia eruciformis was studied in Slovakia between 2002 and 2010. Altogether 22 natural and two secondary sites with presence of the species were found from published sources, herbaria and field research. Localities of its native occur- rence have been concentrated in Eastern Slovakia (Východoslovenská nížina Lowland from the settlement of Streda nad Bodrogom to the villages of Pribeník and Biel). Secondary sites were found in Western Slovakia (Podunajská nížina Lowland; the surroundings of Sládkovičovo town and Jaslovské Bohunice village). The relatively massive reduction of Beckmannia eruciformis localities was recorded in the seventies and eighties of the last century; it was related to massive land reclamation and alterations in the water regime of river alluvia. Recently only seven localities were found. Permanent occurrence was confirmed only in two localities (Malý Horeš, Strážne). In those cases Beckmannia eruciformis has created relatively large populations including some thousands of individuals. All other recent occurrences were temporary (Streda nad Bodrogom, Keresztúr farmstead, Horešské lúky Nature Reserve, Veľký Horeš, Pribeník). Moreover, they were relatively poor in the number in individuals and are acutely threatened by anthropogenic changes of environmental condi- tions. According to our results and by applying the IUCN criteria, we propose to modify the threat category of the species from critically endangered (CR) to endangered (EN) in Slovakia. -
