The Record, which commences on 12th June 1630, is awanting from 31st October 1634 to 21st March 1666, from 14th May 1670 to 4th January 1676, and from 9th June i68i-to 7th October 1713. The Editor, as is common in all Indexes to Highland Records, has met with the difficulty of indexing the Gaelic Patronymics. As it has been felt impossible to devise any principle upon which to arrange these, they are given in chronological order at the end of the alphabetical list. For the benefit of Southerners, it may here be explained that the words neyn, neik, win, neen, mean daughter of; mac, vie (mhic\ son of; boy, buy, red fair black yellow ; roy, ; mor, voir, big ; vayne, ; duy, ; oig, young ; and beg, little.
