Akam Hats Winter Flat Cap Collection Hand made in Italy, passion and creativity. Libero sfogo a colori, forme e creatività. Akam Hats Realizing true luxury, simply acknowledging what feels natural and flows within one’s memories of early childhood. Always attentive, researching to develop a refined style using natural and precious vintage materials, creating an authentic Made In Italy craftmanship product. An eruption of colour, form and creativity. On a relaxing trip to Ibiza together with friends, sharing the same passion for travelling, hat making and tailoring, came the idea to create our own collection of hats. And so it began, inspired by the surrounding colours of that island, hand painted summer hats, personalized with multi-colored classic trimmings. “Our philosophy is simple, a hat shouldn’t be main stream, like a disused accessary, but an “amarcord”, a remembrance of something that relates characteristically to that moment in time, independent from today’s fashion. Made only with quality handcrafted Italian materials, wearing our hats you will feel elegant” “Wool” Coppola In Tessuto di Lana Galles Verde Galles Green Woolen Flat Cap Coppola In Tessuto di Lana a Quadri Marrone Arancio Brown Orange Woolen Flat Cap Coppola Coppola In Tessuto di Lana Galles Arancio William Galles Orange Woolen Flat Cap Coppola In Tessuto di Lana a Pied de Poule Verde Blu Coppola in Tweed di Lana Grigio Chiaro Green Blue Pied de Poule Woolen Flat Cap Tweed Light Gray Woolen Flat Cap Coppola in Veluor di Lana Verde Coppola in Tweed di Lana Blu Green Woolen Velour Flat Cap Tweed Blue Woolen Flat Cap Coppola In Tessuto di Lana Galles Grigio Rosso Coppola in Tweed di Lana Grigio Scuro Galles Gray Red Woolen Flat Cap Tweed Dark Gray Woolen Flat Cap “Velvet” Coppola in Velluto Ambra Amber Velvet Flat Cap Coppola in Velluto Blu Coppola Blue Velvet Flat Cap William Coppola in Velluto Marrone Brown Velvet Flat Cap Coppola in Velluto Verdone Green Velvet Flat Cap Coppola in Velluto Beige Light Brown Velvet Flat Cap Coppola in Velluto a Coste Canguro Kangoo Corduroy Flat Cap “Wool” Coppola Inglese Harrys Tweed Blu Rosso Tweed Blue Red Harrys English Flat Cap Coppola Inglese Harrys Tweed Senape Coppola Inglese Tweed Mustard Harrys English Flat Cap Kent “Leather” “Water Proof” Coppola Inglese in Tessuto Cerato Verde Green Waxed Cotton English Flat Cap Coppola Inglese in Tessuto Impermiabile Verdone Dark Green Waterproof English Flat Cap Coppola Inglese in Tessuto Impermiabile Blu Coppola Inglese in Pelle Scamosciata Blu Blue Waterproof English Flat Cap Blue Leather English Flat Cap “Wool” Coppola Irlandese in Tessuto di Lana Spinato Rosso Red Woolen Irish Flat Cap Coppola Irlandese in Tessuto di Lana Spinato Grigio Chiaro Light Gray Woolen Irish Flat Cap Coppola Irlandese in Tessuto di Lana Spinato Beige Light Brown Woolen Irish Flat Cap Coppola 8 Spicchi Barry Coppola Irlandese Harrys Tweed Rosso Red Harrys Tweed Irish Flat Cap Coppola Irlandese In Tessuto di Lana Galles Grigio Rosso Gray Red Woolen Galles Irish Flat Cap Coppola Irlandese in Tweed di Lana Blu Blue Wool Tweed Irish Flat Cap Coppola Irlandese in Tessuto Coppola Irlandese Harrys Tweed Azzurro di Lana Spinato Grigio Blu Light Blue Harrys Tweed Irish Flat Cap Gray Blue Woolen Irish Flat Cap “Velvet” Coppola in Velluto Blu Blue Velvet Flat Cap Coppola Coppola in Velluto a Coste Canguro James Kangoo Corduroy Flat Cap Coppola in Velluto Beige Light Brown Velvet Flat Cap “Must” Sebastien Painting Hat Coppola in Velluto a Coste Blu Blue Corduroy Flat Cap Note / Notes distribuito da: di Castellini Baldissera Sebastiano Gilbertomaria e C. • Enregisterment in Historical Contexts
0 Enregisterment in Historical Contexts: A Framework Paul Stephen Cooper A thesis submitted to the University of Sheffield for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics February 2013 1 ABSTRACT In this thesis I discuss how the phenomena of indexicality and enregisterment (Silverstein 2003; Agha 2003) can be observed and studied in historical contexts via the use of historical textual data. I present a framework for the study of historical enregisterment which compares data from corpora of both nineteenth-century and modern Yorkshire dialect material, and the results of an online survey of current speakers so as to ascertain the validity of the corpus data and to use ‘the present to explain the past’ (Labov 1977:226). This framework allows for the identification of enregistered repertoires of Yorkshire dialect in both the twenty-first and nineteenth centuries. This is achieved by combining elicited metapragmatic judgements and examples of dialect features from the online survey with quantitative frequency analysis of linguistic features from Yorkshire dialect literature and literary dialect (Shorrocks 1996) and qualitative metapragmatic discourse (Johnstone et al 2006) from sources such as dialect dictionaries, dialect grammars, travel writing, and glossaries. I suggest that processes of enregisterment may operate along a continuum and that linguistic features may become ‘deregistered’ as representative of a particular variety; I also suggest that features may become ‘deregistered’ to the point of becoming ‘fossil forms’, which is more closely related to Labov’s (1972) definition of the ultimate fate of a linguistic stereotype. I address the following research questions: 1.

  • TUDOR BONNETS Presented by Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge [email protected]
SIMPLE TUDOR BONNETS Presented by Mungo Napier, Laird of Mallard Lodge [email protected] The Tudor bonnet, usually called a “Tudor flat cap” in the SCA, is a simple and inexpensive garb accessory. They are neither exclusively English, nor unique to the Tudor period. They first appeared in England in the 1300s as knitted caps among the peasantry. As sewn bonnets, they became fashionable with the upper classes during Henry VIII’s reign, and could be quite elaborate. To support the wool trade, a 1571 law required all commoner males six and above to wear the cap or bonnet on holy days or face a three shilling fine. During the 16th century the bonnets were popular in German-speaking countries. Your host has seen an example in an Italian portrait dated to 1475. Surprisingly, Tudor bonnets are still made today for formal academic wear. MATERIALS Corrugated box cardboard, enough for 3 12” disks Felted wool cloth, 13” wide by 4’ long, or other heavy cloth Leather, about 1 square foot, thin and stiff Craft felt, the cheapest available Heavy sewing thread TOOLS Cloth scissors Heavy shears for leather and cardboard Sewing needle Sewing machine Medium-tip Sanford Sharpies or other cloth markers Steel tape or dress-maker’s tape Compass that can open to 6”, or plastic ruler Small drill and bits Craft knife (Xacto or similar) MEASURING HEAD SIZE Use the tape to measure the circumference of your victim’s head following the diagram at left. • 16Th Century Flat Cap Overview of Project the Flat Cap Is the Most
16th Century Flat Cap Overview of project The flat cap is the most preeminent head covering for both men and women from the reign of Henry VII to the end of Elizabeth I's reign. The hat could be made of many different fabrics and ornaments depending on station and wealth. It is worn by all classes though the inspiration for this cap was pulled from paintings of royalty like those of Prince Don Carlos of Austria (c. 1556, painted by Alonso Sanchez Coello), King Charles IX of France (c. 1561, painted by Francois Cloue) and King Phillip II of Spain (c. 1554, painted by Anthonis Mor Van Dashorst). Phillip II, King of Prince Don Carlos King Charles IX of Spain of Austria France c. 1554 c. 1556 c. 1561 Woolen extant examples have survived and can be seen at German National Museum in Nierenberg, Germany. Examples examined by Jane Arnold proved to have no evidence of a stiffening layer in the middle but this could have disintegrated over time. Tools and Materials: To make this hat I used a heavy tapestry fabric (red patterned) for the shell of the crown and brim and lined the crown in a medium weight (5.3 oz) red linen. Red wool bias tape was used to cover the raw edges. Thick stiff interfacing and millinery wire were used to help the brim retain its shape. The materials chosen for my hat match the doublet armor that I made for the rapier list field. Traditional materials used would have been velvet and a lining in silk.
