…………Get Lost Amidst the Splendour and Beauty of Sagar Island

Sagar Island, popularly known as is an island in the delta, lying on the continental shelf of about 100 km (54 nautical miles) south of , capital city of . Sagar island is a part of Sundarban natural area but it does not have any tiger habitation. It has small patches of mangrove forests and small river tributaries as is the characteristic of the overall Sunderban delta. Unforgettable Sagar Island ensures a unique opportunity to watch and feel the serene beauty of the island surrounded by the sea and rivers dotted with several small creeks. Kolkata Port Trust has a pilot station and a light house at Beguakhali beckons the tourists. A short weekend trip to the island is a must for the nature lovers. Gangasagar or Sagardwip, is a place of Hindu pilgrimage. Every year on the day of (14 January), hundreds of thousands of gather to take a holy dip at the confluence of river Ganges and Bay of Bengal and offer prayers () in the Kapil Muni Temple.
