iNEWS Client The iNEWS 2.5.x client software is qualified and supported for use only on the Windows XP Professional operating system (including Windows XP Service Pack 2). The iNEWS 2.5.x software is not supported for use on any other Windows operating system. iNEWS Server The iNEWS Server 2.5.x is qualified and supported for use on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0. ControlAir The iNEWS 2.5.x system is qualified and supported for use with ControlAir 1.5.1 or higher. MOS Gateway The iNEWS 2.5.x system is qualified and supported for use with MOS Gateway 2.6 or higher. Console Multiplexer The iNEWS Server 2.5.x requires version 2.0 of the console multiplexer (MUX) software, which is on the iNEWS 2.5.x installation CD. The console multiplexer cannot currently display Unicode characters. A terminal emulator that supports Unicode characters can be used if Unicode support is required. Data Receiver The iNEWS 2.5.x system is qualified and supported for use with Data Receiver 1.5 or higher. Fast Text Search The iNEWS 2.5.x system is qualified and supported for use with Fast Text Search 2.5. NewsCutter The iNEWS 2.5.x system is qualified and supported for use with NewsCutter NRCS Tool 6.1.5 or higher. Teleprompter The iNEWS 2.5.x system supports the following teleprompter software: WinPlus BDL Unicode version 6.8.7.3 Qualified Languages and IME’s The following information is updated as of December 16, 2005. Chinese Simplified The following Chinese Simplified (PRC) IME (standard Windows IME’s) is tested and qualified: o Microsoft Pinyin IME 3.0 Chinese Traditional The following Chinese Traditional IME’s (standard Windows IME’s) are tested and qualified: o New ChangJie o New Phonetic o ChangJie 4 Version 2.5.2 ReadMe o Phonetic o DaYi The following Chinese Traditional IME’s (3rd party IME’s) have had minimal testing done and are not yet qualified or supported: o Boshamy (WuXiaMi) o Natural Input Japanese The following Japanese IME (standard Windows IME) was tested and qualified: o Microsoft Standard IME 2002 version 8.1 Vietnamese The following Vietnamese IME’s were tested and qualified: o Unikey NT 3.6 Input Method: Telex Character

    1. TYPESETTING CHINESE ON WINEDT 7 1 1 Typesetting Chinese on WinEdt 7 WinEdt 7 now supports unicode: Figure 1.1 WinEdt 7: Preferences. This interface is new compared to WinEdt 6. Once configured, these settings are saved in the user folder ConfigEx as UserPreferences.ini. Figure 1.2 WinEdt 7: Document Settings. To find out the format of the current file, from the menu, select Document – Document Settings . 1. TYPESETTING CHINESE ON WINEDT 7 2 Typing Chinese characters on Windows 7 Before TEX-ing Chinese, you first need to be able to type Chinese characters on your computer. By default, Windows XP or Windows 7 has provided input methods for Chinese characters. For example, Chinese (Simplified) – Microsoft Pinyin IME 3.0 can be turned on from the language bar, accessible from the little “EN” symbol on the righthand side of the status bar, or, via Control Panel – Region and Language. However, personally I recommend to install a more efficient software. For example, unispim( 紫光华宇拼音输入法) is free, and more importantly, it is easier to switch be- tween English and Chinese input methods, between simplified (简体) and traditional Chi- nese (繁體), and, between English and Chinese punctuation marks (for example, the full period mark “。”) (see Figure 1.3). Figure 1.3 Windows 7 and unispim: interface for typing Traditional Chinese. As of this date of writing, the most recent version of unispim is v6.8. The version I am using is unispim 6.0, which appears to be a non-Unicode application (like WinEdt 6). Before installation, I had to set my “system locale” (Figure 1.4).

    AppendixChapter B1 Windows Command Reference Programs Provided with Windows This appendix lists all the programs installed by Windows Setup on the 32-bit versions of Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP (Home Edition, Professional, and Media Center Edition), and Windows Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate), with all optional components installed. It also lists some programs installed by Windows Update and Automatic Updates. The purpose of this appendix is to help you identify programs that you find running in your Task Manager window, and to let you browse for interesting standard programs that you might not be aware of. The programs fall into several categories: ■ Graphical User Interface (GUI) programs, such as Notepad and Internet Explorer. GUI programs are delivered as executable files with an .EXE filename extension. ■ Command-line (console) utilities such as ping and dir. Most command-line programs are delivered as executable (.EXE and .COM) files, with the exception of a few script files (.VBS and .JS), and some “built-in” commands that are handled directly by the com- mand prompt processor cmd.exe or command.com. ■ Control Panel applets, screensavers, and Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap- ins. The files have corresponding filename extensions: .SCR for screensavers, .MSC for MMC snap-ins, and .CPL for Control Panel applets. ■ Components such as device drivers, Windows services, and programs used solely as “helper” components of other programs.
