Violinist Noel Martin, Lives in Houston Where He Performs with a Variety Of

Noel Martin Mr. Martin, violinist, performs with a variety of ensembles, and is director of the Zephyr ensemble. He is currently a member of the Houston Ballet Orchestra and has performed with many orchestras including the Houston Grand Opera Orchestra, Houston Chamber Orchestra, Maggini, Houston Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, and Orchestra X. He has been assistant concertmaster of the Missouri Symphony, the Kingston Opera Festival, as well as concertmaster of the Amadeus Ensemble, and the Camerata Alfredo de St Malo. He has appeared as soloist with a number of groups including the Baylor Symphony, the Amadeus Ensemble, and Mercury Baroque. Mr Martin has taught at a number of institutions, he has been on faculty at Baylor University, is currently an Adjunct Violin instructor at the University of St Thomas, and also works regularly in panama with the foundation Alfredo de St Malo for the promotion of musical culture through performances, master classes, outreach, and work with children. Pursuing his interest in folk styles from around the world, Noel has traveled along the appalachian trail in the Blue Ridge mountains studying fiddle music of the region as well as in remote regions of central America, including the Darien jungle, documenting vocal music and dance of the indigenous Embara and has observed music of the Polynesian inhabitants of various islands while sailing in remote areas of the pacific. He has attended and performed at festivals in New York, Texas, Washington, Vermont, Missouri, England, and Panama. General Meeting Wednesday, March 9, 10 a.m. Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Main Sanctuary Coffee Breads donated by Nassau Bay Hilton Reshena Liao, Violinist Reshena Liao, 18, began playing the violin at age 5 under the tutelage of Judy Offman and Eileen Chen. Since then, she has been accepted into the Houston Young Artist Organization, received con- certmaster positions for All-Region Orchestras and was the 2011 concertmaster of the Texas All- State Symphony Orchestra. At age 13, she began studying with Fredell Lack, renowned concert soloist and professor of violin at the University of Houston. She also spent summers studying with Linda Cerone at the ENCORE School for Strings and Kevork Mardirossian, now at Indiana University. Some of her accomplishments include a second place prize in the Juanita Miller Competition, a performance with the Clear Lake Symphony as the winner of their 2008 concerto competition, and an upcoming performance with the Houston Symphony as the winner of their 2011 concerto competition. She recently traveled to New York as a participant in the New York String Orchestra Seminar, one of the country’s most prestigious training programs where she was able to work with highly-acclaimed musicians such as Jamie Laredo, Joel Smirnoff, and Stephen Shipps.

He entered the Petrograd Conservatory at age 13 and studied piano with Leonid Nikolayev and composition with Maximilian Steinberg. His graduation piece, the Symphony No. 1, gave him immediate fame and from there he went on to become the greatest composer during the Soviet Era of Russian history despite serious problems with the political and cultural authorities. He also concertized as a pianist and taught at the Moscow Conservatory.
