“Polluter Pays“ Principle - A polluter is charged with the environmental protection fee when by carrying out activities that cause or may cause load of environment, i.e. if produce, use or put on sale raw material, semi-finished product or product containing substances harmful for environment. JSC “Serbian Railways” plans its activities taking the following into account:

• National Millenium Development Goals in the Republic of , 2006. • National Programme for Integration of the Republic of Serbia into the European Union, 2008. • National Sustainable Development Strategy, 2008. • National Environmental Approximation Strategy for the Republic of Serbia, 2011 Contaminated Spots of JSC Serbian Railways The biggest system soil pollutants:

i. Rolling Stock Maintenance Department (ZOVS)

ii. Fuel, Oil and Grease Warehouses i. Rolling Stock Maintenance Department (ZOVS) deals with

 Current and investment maintenance of traction and hauled railway vehicles;

 Manufacture and recuperation of spare parts and brake equipment i. Rolling Stock Maintenance Department (ZOVS) is territorially and organizationally divided into several sections, as follows:

• Central -Beograd; •Novi Sad; •Subotica; •Niš; •Kraljevo. i. Rolling Stock Maintenance Department (ZOVS)

There are organizational units: •For the investment and current maintenance of:  passenger coaches;  freight wagons;  DMUs and EMUs

• For the maintenance of  wheel-sets;  brake equipment;

• Storage Activities Services. Land contamination around workshops and depots for rolling stock maintenance occur due to:

• Aged and insuffficiently maintained workshop and depot facilities, as well as derelict canals for rolling stock repair. ii. Fuel, Oil and Grease Warehouses - They belong to Train Traction Department in organizational terms and territorially are divided in several sections, as follows:

1. Beograd; 2. Lapovo; 3. Kraljevo; 4. Niš; 5. Zaječar; 6. Novi Sad; 7. Ruma; 8. Zrenjanin; 9. Subotica; 10. Užice. ii. Fuel, Oil and Grease Warehouses

They are used for the following purposes :

Delivery of driving fuel, oil and grease necessary for operation and maintenance of rolling stock. Take-over and temporary storage of used oil generated in workshops and depots for rolling stock maintenance. ii. Fuel, Oil and Grease Warehouses
