G6 calls 58............ G8 calls. 66............ About the author....By Deryk Wills. (reproduced fron the Leicestershire Repeater Group Website) Foreword by Brian Perrett. I was writing a web page about “Famous Radio Amateurs and their callsigns” for the Highfields Amateur Radio Club when I received, via e-mail, a collection of text documents sent by my local repeater keeper, GW8ERA. I had a quick look and thought that it might be interesting to add this record of times gone. As they were received in a plain text format I thought it would be better if they were presented in a more favourable way in this technological age, so I have spent some time converting the plain text files into this PDF book. I also have tried to add a little about the man himself, but I have been unable to find out much about Jack. What I have found is in the “About the Author” at the back of this book. I have not edited the entries so, while some of the calls may still be vaild, do not use the data here for contact purposes. I hope this document goes some way to Dreyk’s wishes in the last line of his foreword. If anyone can send me more information about Jack Hum, G5UM, for inclusion in this book, I can be contacted via email at: [email protected].

  • Yoga on the Pier
Yoga on the Pier Join local senior yoga teacher, Helen McCabe, for these weekly Wednesday morning yoga sessions on the beautiful location of Swanage pier this summer. These hour-long sessions will be gentle guided flow classes suitable for all levels and will include an introduction to simple breathing techniques, some standing and seated postures and a guided relaxation. These classes will take place outdoors, on the pier itself, with the beautiful views of Swanage Bay as our backdrop. The nature of the location, however, does mean that the floor surface is not as even as an indoor floor, which you need to be mindful of. Please dress in clothes that are comfortable to move about in. We are also exposed to the elements and hopefully will be blessed with warm sunny mornings but do please come prepared with layers for extra warmth and hat / sunscreen, as appropriate for the weather. Yoga is traditionally practiced barefoot, so a mat is essential. If you prefer to wear suitable outdoor fitness shoes that is also OK. Due to current restrictions, we are unable provide mats, therefore please bring your own along. You may also like to bring a cushion to sit on and a blanket or shawl for the relaxation at the end. Please inform the teacher before any class of any injuries, operations, if you are pregnant or have any medical conditions so that we can give appropriate modifications. If you have any injuries or medial conditions, we would also recommend checking with a doctor or medial professional for their advice before attending any yoga class.

  • Swanage Area Forum Including Surrounding Villages
SWANAGE AREA FORUM INCLUDING SURROUNDING VILLAGES NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 2021 - No. 9 Nearly a year has passed since the start of the ‘Covid-19’ crisis erupted in the UK. Locally there have been many downs, loss of lives particularly in care homes, loss of jobs, including at The National Trust, The Allnatt Centre, Harrow House, The Swanage Railway, various hospitality and retail locations - and many others. There have, thankfully been some ‘ups’ including a brisk and efficient vaccination programme at the Wareham hub and a long, busy and beautiful summer. That’s a lot for all of us to contend with over the last year, but the resilience in the Purbeck community has shone throughout magnificently. The Swanage and Purbeck Development Trust and The Swanage Area Forum decided last March to produce an emergency newsletter in order to draw the Purbeck communities together and try to help keep as many folk as possible in our area informed of developments and news. We originally thought that we would probably produce a sixteen page newsletter, but the response from so many different organisations in Purbeck has been amazing and as you can see we are this month providing a 41 page issue. We would like to draw your particular attention this month to some very important items regarding the future of our communities. The Dorset Local Plan Public Consultation (8 Pages), the new ‘Wellbeing Hub’ being created in Swanage (4 Pages), the now up-and-running environmental organisation ‘Planet Purbeck’ and, the latest news from The Swanage Medical Practice re the local Covid-19 situation.

In presenting the " Dundee Post Office Directory" to their Subscribers and the Public, the Publishers have to apologize for the length of time that has passed between the announcement and the appearance of that Work; but a number of unforeseen circumstances, inseparable from the preparation of a new Work, coupled with an anxious desire to be as correct as possible, in connexion with deference to the opinion of many friends as to the time of publication, will, it is hoped, be accepted as an excuse for the delay. That the " Directory" will contain mistakes is readily admitted ; but these will be carefully remedied, and all unneces- sary delay avoided, if the Public shall be so indulgent as to call for another Publication next year, which, in so large a community as Dundee contains, and from the termly shifting of residences and places of business, would seem to be annually necessary.

According to the latest survey, it contains 1,655,161 acres or 2586 square miles. In its general aspect nearly the whole area of Devon- shire is uneven and hilly. It contains the highest land in England, south of the Peak of Derbyshire; and the scenery, much varied, is in most parts of the county very striking and picturesque.
