In 1957, the first rail road called HAMBAEK-SEON (咸白線) was built and YEONGAM-SEON (榮巖線) was followed to be opened in 1955. But, to utilize the biggest mining areas scattered around JEONGSEON, the first part of JEONGSEON-SEON (旌善線) was built 20 Jan 1967. And, we extended the rail road into the deeper mountain side. In 1974, the construction was finally completed as the final route of AURAJI – GUJEOLLI station was built. Considering the economy scale of South Korea at that time, it was big news. So, even Mr. PARK JEONG-HEE president participated in the opening ceremony. But, because current Korea became the expensive cost country, the mining cost is losing the feasibility. Therefore, the quantity of residence people and transportation demand drop until 2000. -

The heavily armed forces of North and South Korea are still at a stand-off, with almost two million soldiers, supported by 37,000 US troops on the South Korean side. Since the end of the Korean War in 1953, which led to the partition of Korea, both countries find themselves technically still at war. So far, there has merely been a cease-fire in force. While South Korea has since developed into a stable democracy and one of the most economically advanced nations in Asia, the Stalinist rule in the DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) is threatening to disintegrate. The economic situation there deteriorated drastically during the 1990s due to economic mismanagement and a number of natural disasters. Despite this worsening economic plight, North Korea possesses the world’s fifth largest army, with almost 1.2 million soldiers, and spends 25-33 % of its GNP on military defence (South Korea spends approx. 3 %). This fuels the fear that the Communist regime in the DPRK could very soon collapse. -

Immigration Update – South Korea 6 DEC 2019 Immigration office in Andong will cease its operation from 20 Dec 2019 Announced as of today by local newspapers, Immigration office in Andong, one of branch offices of Daegu immigration office in northern Gyeongsang province of South Korea, will cease to operate from 20 December 2019 (Friday). The last day of operation will be 19 December 2019 (Thursday). Foreign residents living in in Andong, Yecheon, Yeongju, Uiseong, Cheongsong, Yeongyang, Bonghwa area need to visit Daegu Immigration office from January 2020. Affected Areas Andong, Yecheon, Yeongju, Uiseong, Cheongsong, Yeongyang, Bonghwa (Please refer to the attached map on the next page to locate affected areas.) District Immigration Office Until 19 December 2019 Effective from Jan 2020 Daegu Immigration office’s Daegu Immigration office Andong Branch office Andong branch office, which has been operated by dispatched officers from its head office – Daegu immigration office, handles about 200~300 applications every month as a district office for approximately 4,500 foreigners living in Andong, Yecheon, Yeongju, Uiseong, Cheongsong, Yeongyang, Bonghwa area. It had been operated once a week since 2009 until September 2018 and has been changed to open once in every two weeks since October 2018 until now. Seoraksan National Park, South Korea
Seoraksan National Park, South Korea Rugged mountains at Seoraksan National Park, South Korea Spread across 398.539 square kilometers, the Seoraksan National Park features the mighty Mount Seoraksan (also known as Mt. Sorak) with ridges, peaks, valleys, waterfalls, flora, fauna, and a number of historical structures. This mountain is part of the Taebaek mountain range in the eastern part of South Korea. Its natural sights make it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. As you enter through So Gong Won, the entrance gate to the Seoraksan National Park, you will be drawn towards the panoramic views of the Seoraksan Mountain. A day tour of Seoraksan usually involves sightseeing the Giant Bronze Buddha statue, Sinheungsa Temple, Gwongeumseong Fortress (after a wondrous cable car ride), Yongpyong Dragon Peak, and the Biseondae Cliff. If you have some more time or another day to spare, you can go on a hike to see the 7th-century Baekdamsa Temple. Seoraksan Hiking & Camping Seoraksan is, in fact, a hiker’s paradise. It has numerous hiking courses on offer that lead to some of the most stunning and diverse landscapes, like the Biryong Falls, Daecheongbong Peak (highest in Seoraksan), Gongnyong Ridge, Ulsan Bawi rock formations, Heullimgol Valley, and Geumganggul Cave. The courses range from a day to three days, and are determined according to their difficulty level and distance. While hiking around you may spot a wide range of wildlife species like the Musk Deer and Koral Goral. The park is also home to over 1,400 rare species of plants. Another popular activity in Seoraksan is camping. -
