Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized. -

Two rebels asked to have sex with me but when I refused, they beat me with the butt of their guns. My legs were bruised and I lost my three front teeth. I also heard of a woman from Kalu village near Jaiweii being raped only one week after having given birth. Solutions? 44 Appendix: possible objections 66 2 Foreword Debate about the implications of the ageing character of our society has so far been directed towards economic issues, including imbalances in wealth and economic opportunities across the generations. It is now time for us to start considering the civic implications of inequalities arising from Britain's ageing society. The analysis set out in this paper by Dr Craig Berry shows that, if current trends continue, older cohorts may well come to exercise a disproportionate influence on the democratic process in future decades. We could be witnessing a fundamental reconfiguration of the electorate, which is putting more power into the hands of older people and reducing that which younger cohorts possess. Dr Berry's paper illustrates that the life-stages of voters matter more and more in our democracy. Understanding the significance and nature of age-based inequalities should form an important part of the agenda of those committed to the cause of reforming our political system. An electorate which includes a growing number of older people generates new imbalances in terms of voter turnout, voter registration, party support and the social and generational composition of the legislature. The coalition government's proposed changes to the system of voter registration, for instance, require particularly careful scrutiny if they are to avoid making generational inequalities worse. -

2018 Annual Report Engaging Community Partners to Improve the Lives of Children and Families. Do something to support Community Substance Abuse Awareness P revention 739,454 served Arrive Alive Event Promotes Substance Abuse Prevention and Roadway Safety Prescription One of the best ways to combat impaired driving and roadway Take Back Events crashes is to provide education and awareness to these issues. The Drug Free Community Coalition did just that. Armed with an idea from a one of its members, the Coalition wrote for a small 2,447 lbs. grant through the NW MO Coalition for Roadway Safety and was awarded the grant. On April 25, 2018 the Coalition hosted our first Arrive Alive Event for high school students. Students from Andrew and Buchanan County were invited to enjoy speaker, Reducing Keller Colley from Think First MO. Keller spoke to the students Underage Drinking about substance use and driving while impaired. The students then enjoyed over 20 local vendor booths with hands on activities focusing on substance abuse prevention and roadway safety. The 391 vendors gave the students a wide range of hands on activities compliance checks and demonstrations such as, riding through a construction zone, a driving simulator, what to do when you get pulled over, % breathalyzer demonstrations, share the road with a semi-truck, 90 etc. The Coalition successfully served over 175 students that day success rate from three different schools during this event.
