A Bittersweet Goodbye: One 3L's Reflection on Law School By Laura Patrick, Senior Staff Writer The time is finally here for us 3Ls - the end of a long, grueling, stressful, anxiety-ridden three years of law school. No longer will we have to endure tlie lectures, the tedious readings or the stress of finals. I should be jumping for joy, walking on air, patting myself on the back, thanking my lucky stars and sighing with relief. .. but it isn't that simple. The conclusion oflaw school has so far been a bittersweet experience. Yes, that's right future 3Ls, one day you will actually look back on your law school experience with nostalgia and see the end ·as, well, somewhat depressing. Graduation is a sad day for a few obvious reasons. For one, only moments after you graduate you're immediately · thrust into the insanity of studying for the Bar. For most of us, bar review classes start only two days after graduation (two days - seriously!?). But the disheartening prospect of the bar isn't the only thing putting a damper on the end; there are the slim odds of getting a job in the current legal market or the fact that despite our best efforts to avoid it, we will have to face the real world in a few months. · But all of these things aren't really what make graduation bittersweet. Journal of the Music & Entertainment Industry Educators Association Volume 12, Number 1 (2012) Bruce Ronkin, Editor Northeastern University Published with Support from Music Entrepreneurs in the Twenty-First Century: A Case Study on the Career of Jay-Z Leanne Perice The MEIEA Journal occasionally features outstanding student papers. This undergraduate research paper was written by Leanne Perice, a recent graduate of Indiana University. Introduction A music mentor of mine once told me “overnight success” takes about seven years to transpire. While he may have been misguided a decade ago, to achieve artistic stardom today means breaking the norms and the boundaries of the past. The make-up of a contemporary music career has undergone fundamental changes over the past fifteen years. These changes are linked to the tremendous technological advancements that have shaped the music industry in recent decades. The main impacts can be observed in the new ways artists create, market, and brand themselves as well as the altered infrastructure of the record labels and the models they employ. To obtain success in the twenty-first century, artists need to acquire additional skills beyond creating art. When examining the careers of the top artists today, it is clear that entrepreneurship and artistry complement each other and are essential to building successful careers. Making albums and selling records is simply not enough. This thesis will examine the career path of Shawn Carter, better known as Jay-Z, one of the most successful hip-hop moguls and entrepre- neurs in the world. The successful lifestyle brand that Jay-Z has created results from a combination of artistry and entrepreneurship termed strate- gic brand management.

fun some nights torrent download Some Nights. Purchase and download this album in a wide variety of formats depending on your needs. Buy the album Starting at £13.99. Fun.'s debut album Aim and Ignite was an interesting blend of seemingly divergent styles topped by a healthy dose of grandiose ambition and performed with a precise abandon. The trio made an album that was truly progressive and also super catchy and fun. The follow-up, Some Nights, ramps up the ambition and sonic bombast, but also manages to be even more powerful and impressive. While writing and planning the album, singer Nate Ruess, guitarist Jack Antonoff, and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Dost were heavily influenced by both the sound and scope of Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and made every attempt to achieve something similar, even to the point of hiring that album's co- producer Jeff Bhasker to produce and craft beats for them. (Also Emile Haynie, who has worked with Eminem among others) Though the album has more of a hip-hop influence than Aim and Ignite did, there are still large doses of Queen and ELO coursing through the band's blood, both in the machine-crafted vocal harmonies and the ornate bigness of the sound. The album is overloaded with strings and horns, backing vocals, keyboards, and programmed drums surrounding Ruess like a clamoring crowd, but never drowning out his innately sincere vocals and painfully honest lyrics. He has the kind of voice that could cut through any amount of noise, not by using volume but honesty.

  • A Critical Analysis of the Dixie Chicks and the Country Music Industry
ABSTRACT WE’RE CHANGING THE WAY WE DO BUSINESS: A CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF THE DIXIE CHICKS AND THE COUNTRY MUSIC INDUSTRY by Justine Frances Stokes Over the last fifteen years, the Dixie Chicks have become one of country music’s most successful acts. However, the relationship between the band and the country music industry became strained following anti-war comments by lead singer Natalie Maines in March of 2003. This project analyzes this relationship from a feminist political economic perspective to examine how an apparent conservative ideology within the country music industry has impacted the career of the Dixie Chicks. By analyzing the various albums the Dixie Chicks have released since 1997 and the subsequent ways the band and their albums were marketed by their record company, questions raised about how women within country music are portrayed and treated by country music are investigated, along with how the Dixie Chicks may have subverted the treatment.
